Anyone know of what I'm after?  I can find several offerings for double-stacked mags, but nothing with just a single mag deep with a full flap.

Thanks

What about the Eagle SR25 single pouch?

This is the answer. I set up a chest rig for my Greek sar8(hk91 copy) using a tactical tailor mini mav and eagle sr25 mag pouches. The elastic on the pouches allow a single mag to be carried in each pouch securely while allowing 2 mags to be stacked if needed.

Tactical Tailor has a bunch of stuff on sale in Atacs camo, including their 308 pouches.

A lot of the time, when mags are double-stacked, I'm less than thrilled with the amount of purchase the Velcro flap gets. With a single mag, you're getting the most secure 'bite' on the flap, and there really isn't enough room for a single mag to flop around out of control. Win-win

Try Tactical Tailor's Fight Lite 7.62 Double Pouch.

It will actually hold one mag securely and snugly if you want
I've got EM on my 7.62 chest rig, they're great with M14 mags

I'd hold out until I discovered a single thickness 7.62 pouch.  Going double thickness is not the way I'd want to go.

I'm using this to support my 6.5 Creedmoor, so it's not a bullet hose by any means.  Just two singles is more than enough for me.

Thanks to the suggestions, it looks like I'm not just looking in the wrong places, they really are tough to find.

Have you considered the ITW FastMag Heavy? No flap but damn good retention on an open faced pouch.

For retention I have really liked the Essstac KYWI, but this will be going on a chest rig.  I took a class last winter in this rig and the mag pouches were filled with mud and crud, so I'd like as much protection for them as I can get.  Because of the relatively low volume of ammo I use I don't need or want all the bulk on the chest, as it also makes it harder to get comfortable behind the gun in the prone.

Seems simple, but not really available.  A board member did PM me to let me know he makes gear and can get me what I need, so it looks like I've still got that option.

Thanks again-

Double 5.56 pouches don't fare so well with G3 mags if that's what he has.   They are a tad tight.

Thats what I do with my AR. Im happy with 4 mags on my TTsplit front but its nice to know I could squeeze another 4 on there.

Yes, thanks.  I think I might go that route, but you also had some other shiny things on the website that attracted my eye, so I have decisions to make.

The long and short is that support for a precision AR is a tough thing to decide on, there are always compromises but with this chest rig all the compromises seem to be hard to deal with.

I'm out of town for work currently but when I get back I need to get this sorted out.

Thanks for the input guys.  RAF, always appreciate your research.

Have you considered a split front harness?

I seem to remember somebody talking about using that setup for precision rifes because he could unbuckle when going prone and not worry about a bunch of mags and pouches poking at him.
