Yes, I know all about how bad this stuff is. I know about the internal ledge inside the
case and the fact that they tend to cause case head separation, but I did not
know how oversized this brass is…
I was sorting 9mm brass today for a run on my Dillon
650. What I do is to put clean brass
inside a Cabela’s ammo holder. This box
has tight dimensions and so once I have the case in primer side down, I can do
a visual inspect for Berdan primer pockets and case height for 380 cases. All was going well until I had a case that
would not fit in the box’s slot. I
thought 40? Turned it over and nope, it
says 9mm Lugar…but then I saw Ammoland head stamp…..
Did a few quick measurements on the rim and case head area –
0.4135” and 0.3939”. Measured 5 regular
9 mm cases and the same area was an average of 0.3484” and 0.3895” – so that
Ammoland stuff is 65 thousands bigger by the rim area but only 3.4 thousands
bigger in the case head area.
Looked up the SAAMI spec on 9 mm and that rim area should be
0.394” +/- 10 thousands so even at max which is 0.404”, the Ammoland stuff is
still 10 thousands oversized.
Don’t use this shit is all I can say…
