How many magazines do you carry and how do you have them set up.
I know the standard is supposed to be 7, or 210 rounds. I also know some carry more, and some carry less. How many do you carry/keep at ready. |
I keep three on my plate carrier two on my belt and one in the rifle at all times.
I have several dozen loaded in the safe and a few loose magazines under the bed in an ammo can. For EDC pistol one in the pistol and two extra magazines. |
My "fun" plate carrier I carry four. My work plate carrier I carry two. If it gets to the point that I'm shooting, we are pretty well fucked
Three rifle mags on the chest, one spare pistol mag on the belt. A couple mags and a little extra loose ammo in a bag.
5 AR in chest rig; 3 in belt and 1 in rifle.
2 pistol mags in belt and 1 in gun |
For my ccw I carry two spare mags/two HKS speedloaders. I'm not a tacticool operator otherwise.
2 rifle, 2 pistol mags on belt.
4 rifle mags on chest rig (when I get around to buying it) |
1 in the rifle and a 1x3 AR mag pouch on chest for HD, also have a 2x3 pouch if I ever felt the need for extra ammo.
1 in the pistol and 2 pistol mags on battle belt. |
3 Rifle mags on my PC
3 Pistol mags on PC 1 rifle mag on battle belt 1 pistol mag on battle belt 1 mag in rifle 1 mag in pistol |
2 rifle 1 pistol on the belt.
PC has 3 additional rifle mags. Never figured out the hard on for lots of extra pistol mags, figure if I shoot the pistol at all it means all my buddies are gone and I'm pretty well done... |
Currently, 2 rifle and 2 pistol on my Battle Belt, plus the ones in each of those guns. I have an additional 6 rifle and 2 pistol mags in an Ares Armor Combat XII pack which I use as a sustainment / reload bag.
3 rifle on plate carrier
4 rifle on chest rig and 2 pistol 2 pistol on belt, and of course one mag in each weapon. |
3-30 round AR magazines on the plate carrier
[4 magazines on chest rig] 1 magazine in rifle 2 pistol magazines on belt- one 15 rounder, one 17 1-13 or 1 round magazine in Hi Power 1 or 2 magazines stowed in the backpack if it is being used 3 or 4 rifle magazines and 2 pistol magazines in the truck |
1 in the rifle, 1 in the pistol.
2 rifle, 2 pistol on the belt. 3 rifle on the PC. Can also carry up to 6 rifle, 3 pistol in a pack. |
4 rifle on the plate carrier
3 pistol and 2 rifle on the belt Special set for RPK-74 10 on the carrier Belt load is the same. |

There was once I time I traveled "heavy," but having never needed that many magazines in that role, I have the capability to run four magazines on my PC, plus two pistol reloads on my belt.
Typically, though, I see no problem in running two magazines on the PC (Eagle flap-top pouches) and a Redi-Mag on the rifle for a "scalable" setup. I can run three magazines total, two in the PC, and one in the rifle, or I can run six total, with the Redi-Mag and all four on the PC, or anything in between. Additional magazines kept in the pack if deemed necessary. Full disclosure, most of what I do involves fighting the radio, not the gun. Different missions, different loadouts, but it is what it is. ~Augee |

Disclosure up front: Just a citizen - my largest battle everyday is on the computer in my office chair.
On my GGG Minimalist Carrier: 4 AR 1 Pistol On my Belt: 1 AR 2 Pistol One in each weapon |
4x rifle mags on chest 1 in rifle, 2x pistol mags on belt and 1 in pistol.
Depending on the chest rig I use it is either 4 or 6 rifle on the rig and 2 pistol on the belt plus 1 in each gun.
Looking to add a single or double rifle pouch to the belt and maybe find a way to carry a spare pistol mag on the rigs. |
3 on PC (1 20 and 2 30s), 1 on belt, one in rifle
I carried more in afghanistan, but as a civilian now there really isn't a need to have >4 imho. |
For rifle mags, I have one in the rifle, and 3x in the PC with an option to expand to 5x (BFG TenSpeed).
4x in the chest rig. Either way, pistol has 2 spare mags. The only reason I have more in the chest rig is because there's more space, and it's generally just for the range. I'm no longer one of the guys who should be shooting a lot if I'm working. If it's a HD situation, I don't foresee requiring more than three mags total, but since it's already on there and I'm used to it, I'll bring four total. As for the three mags total, it's simple. One in the rifle. One in case the one in the rifle needs to be replaced due to a malfunction. One at the end to do a tactical reload and have a fresh magazine. I do not believe I'll ever fire more than a magazine worth of rifle ammo in defense of myself or my home, but I'd like to be prepared to be able to fire that amount at any time, including immediately after an incident. |
Usually 3 rifle on the PC, 2 rifle 2 pistol on the belt, one in each gun. I can go to 6 rifle on the PC if need be.
Fun/training/SHTF rig:
3 rifle, 2 pistol on PC. 1 rifle, 2 pistol on belt. 1 mag in rifle and pistol (30rd AR mags, 8rd 1911 mags) Army nasty girl rig: 5 30rd M4, 2 20rd M9, on TT MAP 15 and 30 rd mags in each. Work rig (rentacop, testing rifles for practicality) 2 rifle mags on PC, 2 8rd 1911 mags on PC, 3 10rd 1911 on belt. 8rd and 30rd in gun. |
Work: 4 on the JPC, one on the belt, one in the rifle.
Personal: 4 on the JPC, one on the belt, one in the rifle . Pistol: 2 spare on belt , one in JPC Add ons: 2 bangs and one smoke on JPC, multi tool on belt |
All my mags are on my plate carrier (JPC)
3 Mags in the kangaroo pouch 2 Glock mags in a TYR speed reload pouch 1 in rifle 1 in the Glock Nothing on my belt except for holster. |
Have my kit set up so I can run both independently and have enough.
PC: 4 rifle, 2 pistol Belt: 2 rifle, 2 pistol |
Chest rig -4 one in rifle
Belt - 2xpistol 1x rifle So 6 total rifle and three total pistol. But I'm leaning dropping the rifle mag on the belt. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
1 in my AR, 1 on the buttock, 3 on my plate carrier, and 2 in my BOB.
I normally carry 3 rifle and 2 pistol on the PC and then 1 rifle and 2 pistol on the belt + 1 in each gun for a total of 5 rifle and 5 pistol. My PC is set up with a BFG triple rifle mag pouch on the front so I can quickly add 3 more rifle if the shit really hits the fan.
Four rifle mags on my plate carrier, two rifle mags on my belt, along with two pistol mags. Handgun attached to belt has a loaded mag, and the rifle has a loaded mag. Being a civilian, if I need more than that, things are way more fucked up than I can dream of handllng anyway.

So from what I read, I'm the only one that runs "heavy"?
8 rifle on the PC and 6 .45 mags on the belt 1 in the pistol and rifle |
Rifle- 3 on the PC, 1 on the belt, 1 in the gun, a few in a pack if need be
Pistol-2 on the belt, 1 in the gun, extras in a pack. |
PC
3x Rifle mags 2x Pistol mags Belt 3x rifle mags 2x Pistol mags 1 in each weapon (Don't plan on wearing both at the same time) As I take more and more classes my setup evolves bc I learn what works for me and what doesn't. |
Plate Carrier/Chest Rig - 4 rifle magazines, 2 shotshell trays
Belt - 2 rifle magazines, 3 pistol magazines Anything not on the PC/CR or belt is loaded. No sense in keeping ammo loose with empty magazines lying around. |
Chest rig-4 rifle and 2 pistol
War belt-3 each rifle and pistol |
Chest rig-4 rifle and 2 pistol
War belt-3 each rifle and pistol |
Chest rig 6 rifle with one in the rifle. Pistol total of 5. There is always extra ammo for both in the truck.
