THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Is that one good to go or should I choose another brand or version? Is OM a high quality manufacturer? Is level IIIA the best it gets for helmets usually? |

Never heard of them. I would have to say that MSA is probably the most common and one of the best brand out there. I have an MSA ACH and love it. Very high quality. And yeah, level III is the standard for helmets.

I do believe RBR is now OM tactical..... I could be wrong! But There is a ARFCOM dealer that sells OM Tactical ACH's.... You could probably IM him and ask.

So I picked up one of their ACH 3 / MICH 2001 style helmets on the cheap from someone on ebay. It looks good to go but it's not the exact same as a 2001 the chin harness holes are off where you'd see them on a MSA/Gentex / whatever.
Other than that it appears good to go |

No matter how I arrange them, I can't get a fitt that is both snug and comfortable on my oddly shaped head . I probly would have done better with an XL to allow for more pad thickness (I really need at least one or two 1/2in at this point), but oh well the TW should fix the issue. |

I did see a company a while back that offered an actual level III helmet, but I can't imagine high survivability rates from high powered rifle hits to the head. Penetration or not I'd expect some serious back face deformity. EDIT: Found this: http://www.bodyarmorcompany.com/retail/products.php?productID=HELECHAS600&dept=Helmets I noticed it lists it's NIJ level III cert according to the much older 0101.01 standards, which I believe is from 1978, which was the M80 ball round at a fairly slow speed. |

Again coming from a guy that owns one.. .they are different the cut isn't the same. mid cut is more like sort of mid cut.. high cut is sort of high cut. and you can't mount ARC rails on them because the screws are in funky spots |

Hmm. Does anyone know who has the MSA's in stock for the best price? They were going on eBay for $150 shipped and I missed the deal. Looking for black.
And just double checking the size I need, I just tried on a fitted cap that was 7 3/8 and it fit snug on my head, not to where it was uncomfortable, but enough so the wind won't blow it off. Apparnetly MSA's Large futs up o 8 1/4 which doesnt leave much room. If I plan on upgrading to Team Wendy pads, am I still good to go with a large? Or should I get an extra large? I don't want the helmet to give me a headache for being too tight, but then I also don't want it too loose and wobbling all over. Thoughts? |

My hat size is 7 5/8. I have an MSA in XL with size 6 pads. I would suggest getting a new helmet vs something used off ebay. When it comes to life saving equipment, I would always buy new. You never know how the last person treated that item. I just bought another helmet to be shipped over here for my wife from TNVC. It was $542.09 shipped. That's a bit more than I bought my first one for, but this was also one of the few places I found that actually had them in stock. They are also one of the few places that offer multiple colors (they have it in black like you want). Most places will just sell one color and tell you to spray paint it. That's what i did with my first one. I bought it in green and painted it tan.

OM Tactical is a very good company that makes good products. MSA is another good company too. I have a MICH ACH 3 made by OM Tactical in black and absolutely love it. It has the upgraded Wendy Epic Pads, Notoros Universal Shroud, MS-2000 strobe with SOE pouch and a Surefire Helmet Light. It doesn't feel heavy to me buy I don't wear it 8 hours a day. The OM Tactical ACH 3 helmet is just like the MSA ts2001 (high cut). Can't go wrong with either one. If you go with the OM Tactical ACH 3, you won't be able to add side rails. ![]() |

Did you just end up drilling holes for the NVG mount or using a ratchet ? |

Here is a pic from the website. Owner said this was a "thank you" pic sent to him from the SF guys that were wearing the helmets. ![]() |

I just drilled 3 holes and put some sealer in there. The shroud is very secure too but they aren't cheap. I paid $150.00 for a new black one and had to wait 2 months. I use the Rhino mount for my NVG's.

The Notoros Universal Shroud fits perfectly...no gaps at all. Like I said it's just a little pricy. The Ops-Core shroud is a little cheaper in price and well made too. |
