My set up while in Afghanistan, my buddy in the back of the picture makes his own and its quite extensive... Mine is just what Uncle gave me and a war belt...

The pattern is from draping a laundry bag, fishnets, ect over an object and spraying it with several colors.  I did that to a ton of crap on p1.

Here is my light kit set up for AK - Thanks for giving me a reason to post pics, my batts were dead - havent used these radios much since I got into ham....

Eagle/SKD Universal chest rig
8 P-Mags
3 Glock 19 mags
1 folding knife
Map, poncho, nitrile gloves, kerlix inside the velcro pouch behind the mags (deciding on med pouch now)

Safariland 6280 holster, Peltor TacSport earpro, Camelbak 1.5L, not shown are some Mechanix-type gloves I've got.

Not the best of stuff, but it works for me right now. That belt is obviously thin and flimsy but when I run it over top of my regular leather belt it supports the holster very well, surprisingly. A Wilderness Instructor or similar is on my list, but don't have the money to spare for it right now when I've got something that works fine for the time being.

Once I find another job, a Troy rail, TangoDown VFG and hopefully an Aimpoint are going on the AR. I'm getting pretty good with irons right now since I became unemployed right about the time I decided to start saving for an Aimpoint.

Here's my SHTF chest rig, along with the companion war belt.

TT 2-piece MAV w/ X-Harness and center adapter
OSOE CQB mag pouches
OSOE compact VOK pouch
TT single mag shingles
TT vertical utility pouch 1V
HSGI Nalgene pouches

ATS war belt w/Specter belt
TT multitool pouches (one with Gerber Multiplier and the other with G2)
BH SERPA level 3 duty holster
GI grnade pouch
TT E&E pouch
Maxpedition Rolly Polly
Gerber LMFII ASEK
TT double pistol mag pouch
TT compass/strobe pouch

The SERPA is going to get replaced with a Safariland, most likely...my M&P is almost impossible to draw from the SERPA. (It came off my duty belt.)

I'm also setting up another rig for active shooter scenarios, as soon as I return to work.

Other than being tacticool, what are the reasons for someone not in mil/le to have a plate carrier?

Well, because they can, for starters. Some people have them because they prefer to have the extra protection when attending rifle classes. Others have it just because they think they might need it one day.

One could say the same thing about owning an AR15, AK, etc.  We are Americans and though our rights are eroding away we still have some.  I have armor and NOD simply because one day(hopefully not) you may be in a situation with civil anarchy and the Police will be busier than a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest.  The other reason is simply because I can and therefore will.  Oh yeah and they stop bullets.

Hey Joe
it's a fobus holster. It has a tension screw on it to make it easier or harder to draw depending on the users preference.

HOLY OLD SHOULDER PADS BATMAN!

You need to pick up a set of the current Wa/Wee Shoulder pads with Neoprene.

Thinner profile, even more comfortable. IMHO

I would be more worried about a decent holster than the profile of shoulder pads.

Well I guess I will bite... Some custom gear I built over the last couple years. Allot was made for Airsoft/Simunitions training.

This is the start of my BALCS cut vest with external Plate pouch.

As it evolved.

My combat belt and holster.

This was my first piece of gear I ever made. SPEAR ELCS with some unnoticeable improvements or maybe noticeable.

More to come on gear I did not make; everything above is completely designed and made by me with the exception of the ELCS I used another ELCS to work off of.

Spyderco Swick, now discontinued.

Nice little knife, had the sheath made by a guy on bladeforums.com and added the paracord wrap myself.

Solution_Zero,

Far be it for me to ask, but, why the cross draw, and why did you mount the holster so high?   Are you not wearing the sidearm on your strong side due to body armor?

About 5 years ago I tried a drop-leg holster. After wearing it for a day out at the farm, I said "f*ck that."
For awhile I ran a 1st line under my MAV, with the Safariland 6280 in a mid-ride configuration. It was comfortable and worked well for drawing the pistol, but the MAV was resting on the 1st line. It would cause the bottom of the pouches on the MAV to push in towards me when I leaned over, kneeled or sat down, which became painful pretty quickly. So, I decided to mount the holster on my MAV, and have all my stuff on one rig. The only way I could do this comfortably was crossdraw. If I mounted it on the strong side (right), it would be impossible to draw. It is very comfortable, and although it appears to ride high I barely notice it. I much prefer it to any other configuration I've tried. I'm not a soldier, and this is a SHTF rig; I plan to be far from the action should it ever happen. I would be wearing this rig while doing all the other daily tasks, and it is in a place where it won't get in the way.

Pro's: Comfortable, rides easy in a vehicle, out of the way.
Con's: Slower transition draw.

I was finally able to get a Safariland  6304-3832 in FDE for my G21SF Picatinny.  How I use it, I wouldn't classify as a drop leg, more of a lowered belt holster, using only the bottom leg strap, lowered just enough to clear my cummerbund.   This mode will probably change after I get the side ESAPI plate pouches, either the Eagle CIRAS  or HSGI adapter.

After my last carbine course at Tiger Valley I decided to make a couple small changes.  Added a Fast-Mag for quicker reload and tossed a couple pistol mag pouches on the front of the Fast-Mmag.  The great thing about a running modular rig is that I can easily change from this config to a dedicated rifle rig by replacing the pistol mag pouches with a second Fast-Mag if I want to ditch the handgun (which I often do).  Below is a breakdown of this kit:

TT 2 piece MAV with back panel from Go-Gear Tactical.
TT X-harness, with low-profile drag handle by Go-Gear Tactical
SDS Mag pouch used as a radio pouch on the X-harness (sometimes I ditch this)
Eagle mag pouches holding 6 AR mags.
Fast-Mag holding 1 AR mag
ESSTAC pistol mag pouches holding 2 Beretta mags
ATS tear-away Med pouch
Go-Gear Tactical custom pouch for all my misc tools ect.
Go-Gear Tactical Nalgene pouches holding 2 bottles +1 stainless cup

Probably the same way people draw from a thigh or drop hip rig, creativly.

If your holster is so low that you can't just reach around your back with the opposite hand and draw smoothly without having to bend at the knees or waist then you're doing it wrong, drop leg rig or not.  This guy's cross draw looks impossible to use with only the left hand.  And the "cross that bridge when I come to it" attitude is not a good one to have when it comes to holsters.

I concur. I'm not saying I'd do it that way. That's too much on one rig for me. IMO pistol (and mags) is a belt mounted weapon and rifle (and it's mags) is a torso mounted one. But not everything he wants is possible without putting it there, so it's gonna get creative. Hopefully he wont be shot in the right arm.

It's not impossible to draw with the left hand. I've practiced it several times, and it works fairly smoothly.
Push the release down and forward with the left thumb, put the elbow out, grab pistol with left hand, and pull straight up.
Not hard at all. It's actually a lot easier than reaching behind your back to get to a right side mounted drop-leg.

I clearly explained why I'm no longer running a 1st line under the 2nd line in the post.
It is designed to have everything on one rig, which is a hell of a lot easier on a man doing a lot of hiking, IMHO.
Food and water on the rig are going to be more important to me in my AO.

After running a drop leg, then a 1st line under the MAV, I decided I liked it better all on 1 rig.

How do you draw your pistol if your right hand becomes incapacitated?

Pow! told you it'd be creative.
