In 1955, the Army adopted a Specialist Third Class (E-4) rank which was 2" across at the top. In 1958, the rank insignia for males was widened to a little over 3", though males were authorized to continue to wear the smaller rank until they were promoted, demoted, or left the Army. Since that is a men's trenchcoat, with the 2" rank insignia, it was most likely worn by a soldier during the period 1955-1958. The 1st Armored Division was stationed at Fort Hood, TX from 1951 to 1956, at which time it was moved to Fort Polk, LA, until 1971, when it moved to Germany. |

I have a BFG Ten Speed pouch at 0800 on my belt with a washed-out and painted protein shake bottle so I have something on me at all times (important consideration in the desert). The Ten Speed pouch lays flat with the bottle removed if I throw my pack on over it. |

I'm a firm believer of having the FAK on the first line. I wasn't sure what to do with it so I settled, settled on having it vertical on my left side. Naturally this made it inaccessible to my right hand.
Battle Belt by Dan Passaro, on Flickr Ideally a centered setup would be best. I did try what I had but vertical made it difficult to sit and pulling it up out of the pouch was very challenging. I finally made a new setup, again center-back but horizontal and easy to reach with either hand: Untitled by Dan Passaro, on Flickr by Dan Passaro, on Flickr by Dan Passaro, on Flickr by Dan Passaro, on Flickr by Dan Passaro, on Flickr It's certainly more compact without the tourniquet integrated in the vacuum bag. I'm still considering separating the TQ but the whole package still 'works' in the sitting position. I can pull it from either side and the orange tape indicates the tear areas to get to the components. I did the FoodSaver vacuum bag to keep things clean and avoid sand and whatever from abrasively putting holes in anything. The bumps you see in the pull tabs is just more duct tape, probably 12" worth, wrapped up into a cylinder. That is 6" wide elastic from ebay, sewed with a single strand of paracord guts lol |

I always have the TQ in a separate pouch on my belt. Just keeps the whole setup lower profile. On my PC it's a bit of a different story since I've got DARK Gen 3's on my both my work and personal rigs.

I'm not sure that I even have $120 into this setup. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v336/bigstick61/IMG_20170328_150843_hdr.jpg Field pack ("butt pack") is a repro M1961 that I got at the surplus store and fitted with fastex buckles; I will often roll up rain gear and strap it to the bottom. The rubber throat was torn and worthless so I cut that out. Attached on the left side is a Tactical Tailor small radio pouch (barely visible in the picture). The hand mike for the radio was run through the pouch for the shoulder straps of the Camelbak and attached to the web strap on the suspenders. Attached to the field pack, run through the suspender straps, and clipped into the shoulder clips of the M1967 suspenders is a Camelbak Thermobak, 3L. The hose is run under the armpit and attached using a Web Dominator. From left to right on the belt I have a Belgian Hi-Power double mag pouch; a Canadian Pattern 82 FAL double mag pouch; a FAL bayonet with frog and scabbard, above which is an Esstac Kywi single pistol mag pouch (courtesy of their Cola Warrior sponsorship); another double FAL mag pouch; a Blue Force Gear Ten Speed dump pouch; an ALICE canteen cover with USGI plastic 1 qt. canteen and cup; M1967 canteen cover with USGI 1 qt. canteen; ALICE fastex belt extender; Belgian Hi-Power holster (carries a spare mag and cleaning rod in addition to the pistol); and a final FAL double mag pouch. The difference in weight on each side is no more than a few ounces, so the distribution works out reasonably well, especially with the H-suspenders (I like them better than the Y-suspenders I had on my rig a few years ago). While obsolete as a primary attachment method, the M1910 wire hangers do have their use on a belt setup. They allow you to mount two things in the same spot without stacking, like with the pistol mag pouch and bayonet. They can also allow attachment where a more conventional pouch might not fit, such as with the double pistol mag pouch; I originally had an ALICE pouch there, and while I wear the belt a bit loose, I had lost enough inches to where it was way too loose and had to shorten the belt which made it so that the ALICE M9 mag pouch could no longer be placed in that spot. Tried the Belgian pouch and it fit quite well. I want to see if someone can add some MOLLE webbing to the sides and bottom of the FAL mag pouches (single column; four rows on the sides, two on the bottom) and a panel with grommets to the back of the pouch with the grommeted portion sitting below the pouch like on the M1961 M-14 mag pouches. I'd also want to modify the ALICE/MOLLE adapters so that they have a wire hanger sewn in so I can hang the dump pouch below the rearmost mag pouch on the left. Adding webbing to the canteen pouches so that a compass pouch sized pouch can be attached there (or sew one of those directly on) is also something I want to have done plus add webbing to the butt pack ro have a new, modernized version made. |

Curious as to the purpose of the double sided loop panel?

The floating loop panel had a rough back that was catching on clothing. The double-sided loop solved that while also making it easy to attach either sort of accessory item; it wouldn't matter if the accessory had loop or hook. Loop could be sandwiched, hook could be stuck on. |
