Thanks gents.

I would ditch the drop leg and get a good quality molle compatable holster. GCode makes one and so does Safariland or just a pressed kydex holster with molle clips

ETA: what brand holster do you have right now?

Na, I really prefer the drop leg, I wear it rather high and feel like it's in my way when I'm wearing my vest too. It's a blackhawk, have beat the hell out of it me love it (it was free too). Really want to stay with it.

Eh I've ran Blackhawk and safariland both have been great for me. And sorry I meant belt wear gets in the way of the vest not the drop leg. I'm weird I tend to wear it on my belt very high. But when wearing a vest I like it low.

While it wouldn't work directly, I think you've given me an idea on how to run the straps.

I wear my Gcode holster with drop leg attachment at it's highest (shortest) drop so it gives me the clearance I need when I wear my chest rig.

Trying to get an M9 holster on there for a match this weekend, totally craptacular.

After making a custom drop in the garage:

CTOMS belt (outside and inner belt)
HSGI TACOS (rifle/pistol and pistol)
EMDOM rifle mag pouch
Tactical Tailor dump pouch
Space reserved for my USGI canteen pouch when I find it in the closet
Hsgi bleeder with way too much stuff crammed in it
SERPA on a custom drop.

Does Safariland make an RTI holster or is that an adaptor.

A lot of great battle belt setups here.

Here is mine. I am playing with 2 options as you can see in the pictures, I still need to get a dump pouch put on. I use this rig for running and gunning matches and also when I deploy, of course when I deploy I use an M9 not my S&W M&P 45.

HSGI SureGrip Padded (Outer)
HSGI Cobra 1.75” Rigger Belt (Inner)
HSGI Double Decker TACO x3
HSGI Mini Modular EOD Pouch (For PVS-14, Protractor, Map Pens, Extra Note Pad etc.)
HSGI Bleeder/Blowout Pouch (Tourniquet, Pressure Dressing)
G-Code RTI DUTY Mount Kydex Belt-Slide
XST RTI Kydex Holster

Looks a lot like my setup, but I have a shotgun pouch (soon to be two) instead of the SKS pouch. I am considering running the belt through a spare CB FLC padded belt and changing the holster to something better. (MOLLE) I want something that will work with my LBV w/o getting in the way, but give me my 1st line gear in a compact, tight setup.

I am looking to upgrade as soon as funds allow. I went with the SKS because in an unstable situation, it, in my opinion, looks a lot less intimidating than an Evil Black Rifle. That, and I shoot it better for some reason. By staggering the clips i can get 40 rounds in the pouch, then I can get another 30 rounds in my buttstock pouch.

I just got a buttstock pouch similar to that for an AR that holds a magazine. good thing it was cheap, because im not thrilled about it. was worth a try for 4 bucks though.

In the process of building my first belt, and am wondering which way to mount a pistol.

Is it better to mount a holster on the molle pad, or the inner belt, with a slight drop? Is it just a matter of preference? I am looking for the most stable platform.
- Found answer while browsing thread.

Also, will a QD ALICE belt work as an inner belt with an ATS pad?

I searched and have not found an answer.

Thanks folks

After ditching a warbelt idea after buying stuff and re selling it, and then also selling my plate carrier, I learned the hard way of what I want. I havent even taken a carbine or handgun course and only have my ccw.

I was looking to build around my ccw set up as that is what I will use 95% of the time. I run a M&P and a extra mag via raven holsters. I am looking for a way to carry 2 rifle mags for a basic or mid level carbine course. I sold basically everything except my BFG dump pouch, because I realized I was buying all this stuff, but not even using it. It was a waste of money!!

I was thinking about kydex rifle mag holders, but they seem too wide due to excess kydex and all the rivets made in them. A 5 finger raven moduloader seems good and I was wondering if anyone ran a minimalist setup like this ( 1-2 ccw pistol mags, and 1-2 rifle mags owb for the range.) I can just tuck in my shirt and everything can be OWB at that point possibly or I can just buy another set of mounts for the kydex holsters I have. After going through a short gear queer phase, I really want to train. I am saving up for my first carbine and rifle course.

If I was to buy a 2nd line kit, it would be a minimalist carrier like a SKD STT first spear collaboration or a strandhogg. Something simple to carry 3 mags, plates, and an ifak. However, I haven't gotten any training yet so I dont know what I truly want besides needing to carry 2 extra rifle mags with 1 in the gun.

Just ran a carbine course with the moduloader setup and hsgi double decker taco pouches,  my opinion I was in the same boat as you wasting money not knowing what I needed when I first started and this setup is always on me now that I know what I want to run with.  I also have a lo pro Crye Jpc for a minimalist load out that works with the moduloader on my side.  So in short I don't think you can lose with this setup just to start with you'll be pleased.

It's what I used until I got a better belt. The adjustment buckles on the Alice belt made it difficult to adjust once inside the ATS molle belt. And the buckle is rather large.

It will be mounted on a US Grunt Gear infidel belt.

Matt is a craftsman and good dude.  He did this microbattle belt for me in Kryptek Mandrake to go with my gear.  This does a great job of incorporating both the functionality of a molle compatible system with the typical 2" thread through duty attachments.  It is very well made and very stiff/durable.  Mine has hook on the back to interface with a inner liner belt with loop on the outside.

You've gone and made me want things I can't afford right now. That's not very nice, you know.

Me too I have been eyeballing their stuff for a while now.

What's the preference here?  Double decker tacos (pistol mag on the rifle mag) or individual tacos?  Setup is mainly for 3 gun matches and shtf.  Does it come down to preference or is there a setup most of you guys prefer?

You may already be aware of this, but the tradeoff is saving space on your belt line with the double deckers versus avoiding extra bulk away from the waistline by using singles.

I have double deckers because I have a 30" waist and there simply isn't enough usable room on my belt for easy mag changes for pistol AND rifle mags. Makes sense for someone like me. If I were a larger wasited person I would go with singles to keep everything slim and lower drag.

Great answer thanks man.  Of course now my problem is that I'm in the middle....haha.  I have a 34" waist, so not skinny, but no large either.....so I dont know if its worth it to save room, or to try to compact the mags on double deckers...?

Another thing would be how much you want it to stick out to the side. I personally have an issue with things that hang too far off of me.

I have a 34" waist as well. I started out with double deckers but took them off and now I have two single pistol TACOs and two single rifle TACOs on my belt. I prefer to keep everything as close to my body as possible.

I have a 34" waist too. Im going single stack because I dont like things hanging way off the side either. I will be taking carbine classes down the road so I want to minimize bulk as much as possible so I can get down low when I need to. If this was just a range toy, I would probably get the double decker version

32" waist here and I run singles, for me the doubles are too bulky, I have a lot of time with this belt and feel it is set up perfect for what I need, the only change I make is when I am hiking around the ranch I add a soft taco for a water bottle and take one do each rifle and pistol mags off.
I also like to keep the back empty due to getting in and out of cars. I once had an admin pouch on the back and it made riding in the truck uncomfortable

Something I'd consider in your shoes (and this may be the bias of a little LE experience talking) is moving the pistol reloads onto the duty belt, and then using the free'd up PALS space for possibly moving rifle mags or adding a third.

But personally, that might be due to my increased comfort with pistol reloads being as close to front-and-center as I can get 'em on a LE-type 2"-wide duty belt. If you're using short MALICE clips to mount your pouches, then it's easy enough to do that, too--just go to the shorter hole and mount them as you would on the ALICE pistol belt.

Then again, this only really applies if you have a couple inches of the inner belt exposed between the buckle and the PALS portion beginning, so there's that.
