I put a huge slice in my thumb loading the 500 Cruiser I bought a few weeks ago. The opening where you insert the shells ( not sure of the technical term) is just poorly finished and sharp. I know it's an inexpensive shotgun but a Chinese 870 clone doesn't come from the factory like that. Curious if anyone has seen this kind of poor finish.

This is probably the first 500 I've handled since a buddy loaned me his for a couple of years while he was in the military in the 80s. That one was a decent and workmanlike shotgun that I hunted with and lugged all over. My buddy bought one the same time as this one, the safety lever broke in half, as seems common, but it seemed to work reasonably well even though treated it about as well as a $ 2 Harbor Freight hammer.

Had not heard of benelli thumb My benelli has the opening already modified. I don't know what it was like stock.

I emailed Mossberg and they immediately emailed me a shipping label to return the shotgun. I had a 590 I bought used that had a problem with the safety not disengaging. They fixed it, replaced the choate stock with a mossberg stock. I assume they replace all aftermarket parts. They also returned the aftermarket stock.
