So I am looking for a single barrel shot gun kit to build, 80%. I have built an AR and a poly 80 glock, I feel like this is the next thing I want to build but I can't find any kits out there, does anyone know of a company that makes single or double barrel shotgun kit?

Highly doubt you find one since I can't imagine there being much of a market. Why don't you build a 1911?

Never seen such a thing in fifty years of gun shopping.  And I can't imagine a market for them.  I suppose you could by a used H&R and make a receiver for it, but I fail to see the point.

Don't really want a 1911. I suppose I will just pick up some parts off of ebay and make one from those then. Or maybe just a musket kit from Traditions. I know that leinad used to sell kits building them. But they are hard to get in touch with in my experience.

I've done quite a bit of looking at homemade and 80% gun builds, kits, etc and have never seen a shotgun kit yet, if you find one please share!

Start in the plumbing section of your local hardware store...

With all the messed up guns in single shot and double barrel find a model with a good front end and buy a model with a bad front end then figure out how to make the 2 remaining good parts go together and function. refinish after that. Your own kit. If you can find the 2 main components needed anyway.

Not quite what you're looking for but close, and a lot of fun to build and shoot!

If you have a receiving FFL who works cheap, Ahlman's in Minnesota has a "junk" gun room. When I was there last August they had 50+ old single shot receivers in various stages of having been stripped for parts. I don't think any were over $40 but could be wrong. If they'll ship one or two it might be a good starting point for a build, especially if you can find or make the internals.

Cryptic cricket (IIRC, it may be another one of the dudes videos) on YouTube. Not an 80% but it's a DIY build.

With the popularity of building a "smoothbore firearm" (similar to a short barrel shotgun but purpose built to meet a non-NFA catagory) I'd think this 80% or kit shotgun would be something the market might want to offer.  Virgin receiver, parts set and the buyer builds to suit (in accordance with legal parameters of course)
I'd think some of these manufacturers would love to sell a parts kit for nearly the price of assembled.

I'd think an 870 would be hard to 80% as its steel and lots to machine out in tricky locations.  A mossberg, being aluminum may be easier to model an 80%
but still not easy.

Plenty of plans out there.  Shotgun bbls widely available, or you can use plumbing pipe.  Check pawnshops for broken/cheap shotguns.

All the parts are out there for Remington 870/Mossberg 500 builds.  Remington uses a steel receiver, but you could probably build it in aluminum.  Mossberg Maverick 88 (500 w/o tang safety) would be the easiest, and the market might start making 80% Mossy 500 receivers if Remington goes under.

Que????

haven't heard about this before.  Is their parent company running them into the ground or just the recent QC issues?

I'm pretty sure the OP is sensationalizing. There's nothing happening to them.

I've seen a claimed 80% Mossberg 500 receiver on gunbroker a few weeks ago.  Looked like the barrel hole in front wasn't drilled and there wasn't a hole for the trigger assembly pin.  Not sure if it was a truly 80% receiver or something that got stolen from Mossberg.

Link?

I would think the Maverick 88 might be a little easier to build - I've been bit by the Mossberg safety before, so not too fond of it.

I don't see it on GB anymore, but their search is way too fucky right now.  It was about 2 months ago when I saw it.  Wish I knew the story behind it.

Yep, that's it.  Wonder if it was a second or walked out of the factory in a  lunch box?
