Hey guys

I need help i have a cimarron 1897 shotgun and i bought this heatshield to make it a trench gun clone https://www.gunpartscorp.com/ad/813820.htm, But when i have try'd to put it on the heatshield has to be like 1/8th of a cm off like just by looking you can't see a difference.

Is there a trick or something i don't know to get it on?

Is it the diameter that is off? Maybe Cimarron barrels are different?

Other than adding the bolt clearance grooves it should fit.

Yes, i took some pictures (sorry for the crappy phone quality) but just by looking it looks like it would fit.....tightly but fit.

You've got a fixed bbl, right?  Is the heatshield for a takedown?

Yes it is a fixed barrel, according to the add
Note: Fits solid frame and takedown models

I have Managed to get it on by stretching the pieces apart but now trying to get the screws in it have been another deal, Do y'all think i should use a screw gun on them and try to force them, file down parts of the barrel was the screws or just remove it and send it back to numrich and try somewhere else?

The original 1897 trench had grooves filed into the barrel to accommodate the screws.

So you think i need to get a gunsmith to cut the groves in the barrel for me? that would make sense why the screws ain't lining up....

Is that a choke tube in your bbl?  I wonder if the Chinese didn't slightly increase the bbl external diameter to accommodate the choke tube.

I feel so dumb right now, yes it is a choke and i have heard from other forums that it is a mossberg choke, So it would all make sense with it not fitting.

The barrel needs the grooves cut in it (as the originals).  These grooves are what keep the shield in place under recoil.  Without them, it will eventually slide forward.  But beyond the grooves, by looking at your photos, it appears you have a barrel outside diameter that is too large for the adapter to properly fit over.

Also, this is from Numrich's description of your part:  "Note: Fits solid frame and takedown models. Standard barrels and riot barrels will require locating notches for the bayonet lug attachment screws."

The first few inchs of trench gun barrels are straight, no taper.
