Howdy,

I am putting together a dedicated slug gun for deer hunting here in the "shotgun only" towns.  I know slug gun recoil is brutal on scopes.

Any ideas on specific brands/scopes you have had good luck with?

I have had good luck with Nikon and Leupold scopes in the past but I have never scoped a shotgun before.

red dot is the way to go.  no eye relief problems.

Leupold shotgun scopes are what you seek.

Thanks all,

I have a red dot but would like a bit of magnification if possible.

I am tempted by the Nikon 2x7 models particularly.

I recall sighting in a friend's slug gun for him and the damn (cheap) scope broke while I was verifying the zero.  You could hear the lenses rattling around loose in the scope body.

That reminds me to get some sandbags for my shoulder.  OUCH.

I've had 1.5x5 and 2x7 models on mine and they worked just fine.

Bushnell 3500 and Nikon's.

I also learned the hard way that a 12 gage shooting slugs can will destroy a low end scope. Leupold is my vote.

Definitely. The parallax is set specifically for shotguns and muzzleloaders. I used one on a Remington 11-87 for a while, and when Ohio started permitting 44 magnum for deer, I moved it over to a Traditions ML. Great scope.
