Win SX2 and SX3, Browning Gold

Old article but not much has changed.

ETA. I have a feeling the average shooter would have a hard time overrunning the trigger on most modern semi autos. Or be able to use them usefully at that speed.

Worth repeating.  I shoot a lot of shotgun, and have not yet met anyone who can shoot a shotgun faster than the gun will allow.

And I'd add Berettas to the list.

I read that the SX3 was timed at 12 shots in 1.44 seconds.  Extrapolate that and you get 500 rounds per minute.

I thought that the Benelli M4 was one of the fastest.

Beretta 1301, blink operating system.  I'm not a fast shooter, but I can make it run like full auto.

It does not matter, because the day after you buy it some asshole with a $200 pawn shop pump will be faster than you.

I think technically it is the SX3.

Are you just asking for informational purposes or are you currently outrunning your shotgun?? Like several have stated I think the Winchester is the fastest. The Benelli Inertia guns are quick too.

I mostly shoot Remington 1100's and have never outran them that I can remember. Buy the gun you want with features you like and run with it. Unless you are that 1% that's capable of operating that fast then buy the winchester

Friend at work had a Franchi that was supposed to be the fastest.  This was awhile ago.  I remember their print advertisements pictured multiple empty hulls in the air with the gun still firing.  He loved that Franchi.

Beretta 1201FPs are pretty fast.

I believe the Benelli M1/M2's are the fastest. They are recoil-operated, so the bolt starts to move almost immediately, as opposed to gas-operated designs where the wad has to get past the gas port, then gas pressurize the piston(s) before anything starts to move.

I have some firsthand experience with this as well. When I first started working at gunshops, my coworker Zack and I did all the test-firing into a snail trap. We used to take turns and see if either of us could "out-run" a gun cycling and end up with a dead trigger or jam. (We did this after firing 3 slow rounds to check normal function). We were able to outrun many shotgun models, including Remingtons and Berettas. We never could outrun an M1 or M2. I recall one evening we both tried quite hard and just couldn't do it. We never had the chance to try an M4, but they're gas operated, so I can't imagine it being as fast. Watch some Tom Knapp videos in slow motion. It's extremely impressive (both the gun and the shooter).

And what makes the SX3 the fastest??

I thought it was the SX3 followed by the Browning A-5s; long recoil guns, the action starts moving the instant the round is fired.

Are you asking why it is the fastest?? I don't know as the tests I saw were years ago but the winchester/FN was the fastest.

Benelli is S L O W , as is any inertia operated gun. relatively speaking of course, 3 gun guys are always talking about out running their Benelli M2.

Winchester did 12 in 1.42. Pretty sure it is faster by a hair.

The fastest cycling shotgun has always been the Browning double automatic shotgun.
