I have a Moss 500 ATP8. 28" Barrel used for sporting clays.

First time I took it out, shoot the first round and the action did not release. I had to manually depress the action release lever to eject the empty shell. Tried it again, same thing. When I dry fire, the action release lever does not lower out of the way of the bolt carrier. Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

I'd need to see it installed in the gun, but it looks like the release might be bent upwards a bit.

See that shiny spot on the left side of the action release? That part is binding against the bolt when the action is locked closed. You may find a similar rough spot on the bolt where the action lock contacts. The binding is too much for the spring pressure (of the hammer falling and subsequently unlocking)  to overcome.

Cleanup and smooth that area and your problem will go away. (Just smooth off the bur, don't shorten the length of the action release part)

Here's a crap video I took. Sorry for the one hand manipulation. Didn't have anyone around at the time to help me out. Gun was safety checked before dry firing.

This trigger group has the hammer removed. See that spring’s leg in the middle? That part of the spring should nestle inside the hammer to pull the action lock lever down when the hammer falls

Here's the spring pulled out. It has a pretty sharp burr on the front part that sits on the sear. Broken tip possibly?

Could be, or the spring could be bent or weak. Can you manually depress the front of the action lock lever down with and without the hammer installed (when the hammer is in the fired position) ?

IIRC the hammer has a pin through it that rides on that spring's leg (which is supposed to let that spring pull the action lock lever down when the hammer falls)

New find everyone. I noticed that my not my action release lever, but the other one they disconnects the sear from the hammer, is not seating properly. It keeps popping out  and ramming into the right side face of the sear. I have a crap video but maybe you guys can see what I'm talking about. I'm going to contact mossberg and see if there is any way they will check out my FGA. I polished the face of the action lever and the contact pint on the bcg with no luck. I took the action spring out of my friends maverick 88 and was going to test it in my trigger group, but the spring snapped in half! Wtf! Now I'm ordering him a new spring haha
