Remington Model 11

I love mine!

A 1923 Vintage gun off gunbroker for $219. It's a factory CYL bore gun and someone has already cut it back a tad and added the Cutts, so having it cut back to 20-inches doesn't amount to condemnation. That being said, it went out today to GunCat to be shortened to 20-inches. Have had it for a while and been waiting to get this done and now can hardly wait. Overall mine looks to be in pretty good shape, bluing on some edges is worn away, but the wood is in great shape (seems kinda like a big deal on these guns as good wood can be hard to come by).

These guns are a ton-o-fun, built like a tank and super fast... like the Steve Earle song says, shoot as fast as lightning, but loads mighty slow.

So, lets hear about your Remington Model 11

Remington Model 11

I love mine!

I love mine too. Mine is a pre model 11 made in 1910, it currently has an 18.25 in barrel, a weapons light and a velco 3gungearseque sidesaddle setup.
Here is its progression/history, when I got it is was missing the ejector and buttpad and the barrel was lightly ringed from steel shot most likely (what more could I ask for for 75 bucks?)
After the install of the 7 dollar ejector and a cheap slipon recoil pad and chopping the barrel down to 18.25 and moving back the bead it looked like so,

The next step after that was to shoot the piss out of it, which it handled just fine. I then added a sling, buttcuff and recold blued entire gun after some steelwool work, it was quite pitted all over the outside but the barrel was as smooth as chrome.

At this point I sent it off to Mike Orien to be threaded for chokes, cut the stock down to 12.5 in LOP and added a streamlight 870 light mount clone I made.

I hated the shorter LOP so I readded the piece I cut off, dumped the butt cuff for a 3gungear velcro sidesaddle clone and also added an ATI 870/1100 +2 (that actually gives +3 on the M11).

It can still be classic too,

Like I said, I love my model 11 and will talk about it given any chance, like now.
I'd rather die on my feet then live on my knees.

I came into this world kicking, screaming, and covered in somebody else's blood, and i have no problem going out that way.

I have three myself. One I got from my grandfather, a 1909 when it was known as the Remington Autoloading Shotgun. The others are both from the '20s. One I am keeping stock and the other was built up from parts off Ebay.

Got the barrel for my Model 11 back from GunCat today...

...it looks AWESOME!

I had asked Steve to cut the barrel at 20-inches and add a Remington base and bead. I sent the barrel off from my little slice of teh gehtoe in Oregon on Monday July 2nd to go three quarters of the way across the country, get the work done and come back. I got it back today, July 12. Ten days door to door! That's freakin amazing. And, the best part, the work looks fantastic. Cost for all the above including return shipping and insurance... $105.

There is a "before" pic up above.

...and some crappy cel phone "after" pics.

Steve Rose of Rose Action Sports in Pembroke, KY he goes by GunCat here in ar15.com. Great guy to deal with. His work is first rate, prices are great and turn-around is amazing. IIRC the work on that Model 11 was $105 to cut/crown, add the base and bead and also included return shipping. I sent the barrel out on July 2nd and had it back in my mail box on July 12th... ten days to go across the country, be worked on and get back! That is GREAT service. I've lost count, but I think that is the seventh barrel I've sent off to Steve and I've been very happy with every one of them.

PARA "After the install of the 7 dollar ejector "

Did you install the ejector yourself?
I have a pre-model 11 made in 1909 that would just drop the empty and not kick it out. After some drilling, cussing, hammer & punching ... I got the old flat ejector out this evening.
I was wonder how you went about the instal of the new ejector if you did it yourself..

Thanks

Yes I did and It sure was a PITA to get the old pieces out. I just peened it over with a hammer, I scuffed up the flat of the ejector that is parallel with the bore that I laid against an anvil/vice while doing it but so far I haven't had any ill effects. It is still a little lose/wiggly but it isn't going anywhere. I am told the proper way to do it is to place it in and heat the protrusion with a torch and then peen it over, I was just too lazy to do it right.

Got the ejector in! Flips the spent hull right out now!
Very cool, smooth old gun!
Few little hiccups to work out, but I'm betting its going to bag me a few birds this season!

Don't have a Rem Model 11 but a Browning Auto 5 built in 1947 after they got the factory up and running again. Stock was shorten and barrel cut back to 20" cyl bore before I acquired it. Shoots and runs great! Another great gun by JMB.

I love mine too. Have to get a pic of it. Just no other shotgun that sounds the same when it cycles. Also, it has the smoothest trigger Ive ever had on a shotgun.

What I love the most about older firearms like the Model 11 is they were made before CNC machines. They took some good old craftmanship and hard labor.

I believe the magazine tube and spring need some TLC, every once in a while she will jam up, a shell will get caught/lodged against the lift gate/arm. If i pull the bolt back all the way and hold the release button I can shove the stuck shell back in the tube and then recycle it and be on my merry way.
It was not a well cared for shotgun, it was rescued from a pawn shop and shows the mileage from being 100+ years old.
Broken wood, pitting and no bluing left.

Funny, but I was having the same problem and have now sent the gun off for repair. Sure hope they can figure it out as I really like the Model 11.
