It is very new so parts probably are not there. It may take an 870 stock but idk.

That said, I would not even consider the 887 and run away. It is heavy and clunky, nothing you really want/need in a shotgun. The pump can come back and crunch your finger on the slide release if you are not careful. The action isn't very smooth either. Any moisture gets under the plastic coating and you will have a major rust issue very quickly.

I would stick with the 870 or 500 IMO.

YMMV

Stay away from the 887, it is a huge turd.

Also, I doubt you'll ever need to shoot a 3.5" shell in a SBS, so you'd probably be better off with a regular 870 magnum, which shoots up to 3".

There's another thread from like a week ago. Run from that 887.

You lost me there....are not the magazine tubes on the Super Mag and a standard 870 both the same length ?

With the 500 you get the extra round, but there is no way to add an extension, with a 590 or 870 you can add an extension to get the capacity you want. Run from the 887, and don't get 3.5" gun unless you plan to shoot turkey or waterfowl with it.

The magazine tubes on the Super Mags are the same length as all other "normal" 870s Like the Express, Police and Wingmaster - all just "normal" 870s (except for things like the Special Field - shorter mag tube). The pic below is a Super Mag on top with a 19-inch barrel (cut down and rib removed by GunCat) two 870 Police guns with 18 or 18.5-inch barrels and an Express with the 18 or 18.5-inch barrel. All are 870s and great guns.

With the 870 Super Mag chambered for the 3 1/2 inch shells, the receiver is the same as any other 870 with a larger hole in the side (ejection port) the trigger pack is a tad different, the bolt has a small sliding shield on the side towards the back (as the port opening is larger) and I believe the ejector is different. They're neat guns and fun to run 3 1/2 shells though, but not a "must have" if you ask me. Something to be mindful about if you're making a "tactical" Super Mag of any kind, the barrels chambered for 3 1/2 shells usually DO NOT have a ball detent in the ring that is attached to the barrel and goes over the magazine tube. I had to find a separate barrel on gunbroker that had the ball detent in it already than send it off to GunCat... and the gun was not an "Express" just the way a lot of the Super Mags come. At any rate, great guns (all 870s) and if you feel the need for an abbreviated big boomer the 870 Super Mag is a great way to go. Would stay away from the 887; heard another horror story this past weekend from a cousin in North Dakota who got one last year, hates it, has rust issues and doesn't run right. I'll just stick with my 870s, 500/590s, old Ithacas and Winchesters

If you want to shoot 3.5" shells from a pump, buy a Super Nova (this from a guy who swears by his five 870s). That said if you want extra capacity from an 870 without an extension, there is a recently added 870 with a 6rd mag tube (no extension). Be warned that it doesn't take regular 870 barrels as the lug is farther forward.

Adding the ball and detent is not that hard either. The parts and tool (small punch for staking) is about $20. IF the barrel collar has the hole, you insert the spring, ball then tap with the tool to stake a ring of metal. I did one just to do it. GUNCAT is also a great choice, he will probably have your barrel back to you before the parts would get to you.
