I was wondering what a good price would be for a used 1300 Defender. The shotgun appears to be in excellent/like new condition. I do not know how many rounds have been shot through it at this time. Is $325 too much? Thanks in advance for y'alls input.

These shotguns are now discontinued, and were not terribly expensive to begin with. I have an interest in them, because they tend to be faster than 870 shotguns for certain competition purposes. Matter of fact, I just bought a wood-stocked version as a backup/loaner this week for $250.00. Your price seems a little high, but not totally unreasonable if it has some decent aftermarket parts or something. Post a pic, perhaps.

Thanks Wombat25. The shotgun is stock, no aftermarket accessories. I've been in the market for one for HD and happened across this one. Everything I've read on this shotgun has really impressed me. I suppose I'll hold off on this one and see if I can't find one at a better price. So...if you know where I may be able to get my hands on one, I'd certainly appreciate it!

I got mine in '86 with a camo paint-job and folding stock for $50.

Thanks for all the input guys. I've been able to run across 4 (online) in the past couple weeks. Two were selling for $300 and two for $325. I lost a bid on one on GunBroker.com. The other dude won it for $360...about $60 more than I want to pay. I've called every where I know locally (AL) and no one seems to have one. I would prefer the black synthetic stock, but I may have to just get the wood stock and switch the furniture later. Keeping my eyes peeled.

Have you thought about just getting a standard 1200 or 1300 with a non vent rib barrel? Then just cut it down, Get a mag extension, and it will be the same as a defender minus the cost. I just bought a 1300 for $115shipped. Granted it's a 20ga but I plan on doing the same thing to it(Cutting it down etc..) I've seen 12ga's sell on GB for $150-$200

I can't believe someone paid $360 for it when the MSRP is $354

That idea has crossed my mind, but I didn't/haven't given it much thought. I assume you plan on using your 20ga as a HD shotty? Yeah, I'm keeping a close eye on GB. If you run across one (that you aren't going to buy yourself) on there or anywhere else, gimme a holler if you don't mind.

I can't believe he spent that much either. I got a little carried away with the competition aspect of it and before I knew it I was at $350, so I quit. LOL. The starting bid was $325, so if nothing else I can relish in the fact I made him spend $35 extra.

I got mine of a local(In state) forum. I have a 1200 12ga I'm gonna use as a HD as I got a 22" Smooth bore slug barrel of eBay for $45shipped I just wanted a cheap one to cut the barrel down on, and also shorten the stock. If I see any for sell cheap I'll send you an IM.

Edit: Just checked GB. There's a lot of 1200's on there for under $200 with no bids. Saw one for $150 that has no vent rib. Didn't look at the other's. Also check out different models. 120/1200/1300, and I think even 1400's are all the same.

1400s are the auto version.

I got this 1200 off gunbroker for less than 200.
I did add the heatshield/bayo mount & chopped the barrel since I wanted a trench version. I have to get new pics up since I refinished the wood.
The 1200s usually have nicer furniture than the 1300s

That's a little high ($350). Defender is now called a Super X, is made in Turkey, and new at Academy for $329.

Whoops, your right.

As for the Super-X(As the other poster said), I believe it has it's own stock and that you cannot switch them out. I could be wrong. I think it's only a 5+1 also unlike the original 7+1 defender.

I don't think all US-made Defenders were 7+1. Had a 7+1, currently have a 4+1.

I'd rather buy an older U.S. made unit that needed repairs than a modern foreign made version of an American weapon.

Just my opinion.

Carry on.

Looking at the Winchester site, they all are. Seen here. If they weren't 7+1 they would just be a normal 1300.

This is probably why:
There was a Model 1200 Defender. It was offered with either a 4 or 7 shot magazine that had a front bead or rifle sights.

I'm talking about the 1300

I'm sure it's a 1300. I know what it says on the Winchester site, but look. Not trying to be a smarty, just saying.

i own a winchester 1300 defender. 7+1 and i picked it up in 1999 for about $225 or so.

and it will cycle the mini shells. i think you can shove like 14 mini shells in it.

YOU WILL ALWAYS VOTE FOR EVIL.

I would say a good buy price is $200 for a plain 1200 bird gun. You can always sell the wood stocks on ebay and they go fast.

Searched high and low for a 1300. Found and bid on a couple on Gunbroker, but they always end up going for more that I wanted to pay for a used shotty that I know very little about its history. I broke down today at a gunshow and bought a Rem 870 Tactical NIB. I'll attempt to post a pic, but I've had a time trying to figure that out.

Good looking bunch of Defenders you have there. I'll eventually get one like the bottom one in your pic...only in black furniture. I am happy with my 870 tho.

That's a Mesa Tactical stock adapter with a Magpul MOE+ grip. Unfortunately, Mesa only made a small number of the adapters for the Winchester 1300 and seeing as how the gun itself has now been discontinued for 5+ years, the adapter is about impossible to find.

To be honest, though, the Speedfeed pistol-grip stock (as seen on the gun in the middle) works just as well - maybe better - and is both widely available and much cheaper.

Going to bump this thread. Picked up a 1300 Defender with 2 boxes of buckshot for $250. Seems like a great shotgun, love the safety location, pump is buttery smooth.

i had picked one up last year sometime for $269. had the extended mag tube, side saddle, and a weaver rail on top. had some nicks and some tiny rust spots towards the end of the barrel but it cleaned up in no time and i refinished it with some black high heat BBQ paint. came out nice.

i bought it from a LGS

Does the 1300 have plastic feed throats? If so, be careful as they can break and if they do you might not be able to find a replacement part. I've been locking for a set in 12g for a few years.
