Not the best pic ever, but the Navy 870 and Marine Corps 870 Mark 1 projects starting to take shape.

Info from different books (Canfield and Swearenger mostly) Navy and Air Force bought "kits" from Remington for existing 870 which included the bayonet adapter and +3 magazine extension, sometime a new 20-inch CYL barrel too). The Marine Corps bought a number of 870 Mark I shotguns from Remington in 1969, those guns were speced by the Marine Corps... 21-inch MOD choked rifle-sighted barrel, adapter with rifle sight, Wingmaster style forend without checkering, finish and so on. As far as these guns go both are in the correct respective serial number range per info from Canfield's book. The Navy gun (should really be Navy/Air Force) has the correct dated 20-inch CYL barrel (not all that difficult to do) and by far the most difficult piece to find, the barrel clamp/bayonet adapter this one is the two-piece unit with bead sight. I have a correct stock (old "scalloped" style with plate, not pad) and sling swivel for it, just need to find a nice walnut Police style forend for it (the one that is on it in the pic is really beat). Then send stock, swivel and forend to my "wood guy" for beautification. The clone of the Marine Corps 870 Mark I is a lot further from the finish line. Finding a real Mark I barrel is never going to happen, so I'm figuring I need to find a correct 1969 dated 26-inch MOD choked hunting barrel and have it cut to 21-inches; it will "look" right, but really be a CYL bore rather than the correct MOD choke (thing is, those barrels come attached tro guns - have to buy another 870 ). The second adapter I have is a correct two-piece unit but does not have a sight on it, bead, rifle or otherwise. Need to find a vintage set of Remington rifle sights for the shotgun (sights for rifles have screw holes in them, sights for shotguns do not).
Apologize for being so long winded and yet it's a very brief outline. Been working on these two guns for several years now and am getting closer. Inch by inch. This is a pic of the Navy gun right after getting it back from being parked and its being hosed down with oil, soakin it up. The park is really very close in color to the adapter and magazine extension (those were not reparked). Will have to get some better pics once the wood is done and on there.

I have a new in box one just like it. I've yet to fire it. I bought it for my birthday a couple of years ago, and it was the laminate furniture that sold me on it. |

I had a Mesa "High" adapter w/ Hogue grip, and Emod stock on my 870. It was a lot nicer then shooting with the factory stock. I could shoot 100rnds through during a range trip(about 2hrs) and feel perfectly fine after. |

http://i1075.photobucket.com/albums/w424/JFCreally/100_5813.jpg nice, does it break down? Yes. Surprised it came apart so easy considering it was buried in my parents Attic for 10+ years. |
