At last I can contribute to this thread!  Moss 590A1 factory SBS.  LE trade in.  I really dig it!

Stamp and transfer fees cost more than the gun

Very nice shorties! I know three of the four, for sure,
but I can't recall what model the last one is. I'm almost
certain  it's a Franchi, though. I want to say it's a model
PA-something? Refresh my memory, please!

Yes it's a Franchi PA3/215 it came with a folding stock, i removed it for the picture, i don't think it was ever imported in the US, only in Canada in the late 80s, but it's very hard to find up here.

What all has to be done to SBS a Vepr 12 and keep it running reliably other than chopping the barrel? I'm thinking about doing this to my Vepr 12 - what do you put on the Form 1 for barrel length and OAL? Thanks in advance for your help!

I love your set up. I have that same shotgun. I would love to SBS it but haven't had any luck with finding a stock or barrel. Where did you find those and how much were they?

But if you cut down a shot gun that's not a form 4 right?   Has to be factory made short.

Has to be made by an SOT and transferred to an individual.  Get a pistol grip shotgun, take it to your SOT buddy, have him Form 2 it into an AOW, then Form 4 it back to you.  If you do it yourself it's a Form 1 and $200.

Yes, mine is dated 1908, and I'm assuming its a repair from its lifetime. I'm keeping it, because it adds to the history.

Just another Remington 870. Bought it NIB in the 80's with the folding stock and a 18"bbl.
When Michigan allowed SBS's, while the ink was drying, I filed my form1. Now it a 14"

Back then I had to register it as a pistol, and under our CCW laws I can carry it loaded in the car.
They changed that law a few years back, but I'm grandfathered in as pistol.

Here's my 20 ga Winchester 1300 SBS project. I acquired the gun back in 2013 in a trade for 10 AR mags with the intention of SBS'ing it. It was a 20ga XTR model that someone had already bubba'd by unevenly hack sawing the vent rib barrel down to 19.5" and chopping the stock down to a 9" length of pull. The finish was also pretty beat up. I will try to find the before pictures and get some better quality pictures here shortly.

Life happened and I never got a chance to start on it. Finally this past January I submitted the form 1 and it was approved in April.

I prefer smooth barrels on my non-field shotguns. Being that new smooth barrels were few and far between and pricey, the first thing I decided to do was attempt to remove the vent rib. I figured if I messed it up it really didn't matter because someone had already bubba'd the barrel so it wouldn't be a big loss. The vent rib actually was really easy to remove and after it was off, I smoothed out the imperfections.

Next I properly chopped the barrel so it would be flush with the front of the magazine tube giving me a 12.5" barrel. The magazine holds 5 2.75" shells or 4 3" hells which is pretty darn good for a 12.5" sbs.

I then stripped the shitty finish down to bare metal. The anodizing on the receiver was a bit of a pain to get off evenly but after some soaking and elbow grease it came off. The remaining bluing on parts was removed with a simple vinegar soak. I was planning to refinish it with some FDE Alumahyde, but I am kind of liking the bare metal look, so I may get it nice and even and then clear coat it somehow.

For furniture, I went with Hogue OD green furniture. I figured it would go nicely with FDE. If I do keep the bare metal look, it will still look good with the OD firniture. I briefly considered wood, but decided against it after buying some NOS unfinished factory parts and realizing they wouldn't work with my plans.

I still need drill and tap the barrel for a bead which I will do in the morning. Future plans, besides refinishing, include getting a pistol grip and VFG forend for those times I want something more compact. I am also going to drill and tap the receiver for a picatinny rail so I can mount a red dot at some point. I may also shorten the stock an inch or two for a shorter LOP.
