THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I 've never carried before (Lucky me, I'm from IL and we don't have CCW) but I'm going to be taking a carbine class soon and they want you to have a sidearm in a belt or thigh holster. I'd put off getting any sort of holster until now as I didn't previously have a use for one. I plan on taking classes in the future so I'd like to get a nice setup...rather than just a cheaper solution that will just get me by.

I've got a gun shop near me, but they primarily carry Blackhawk Serpa stuff and don't have much selection anyway so I'm looking to order online. Most folks I've talked to have recommended Safariland to me and I've found they have a thigh rig (6004 & 6005), a few "duty" holsters (6280, 6285, and 6287), and a few "concealment" holsters (567 & 568) that will fit the FNP-45.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for some other holsters (or whether those Safariland choices I mentioned sound like solid choices) that might work well for transitioning back and forth to a sidearm from a carbine? I've never used a thigh rig or a belt holster so I'll be learning some new skills.

Thanks!

I had one made for my Witness. Jason at TCB firearms did an excellent job. Very reasonable price, too.

I use a blackhawk serpa made for an XD. Had to heat it up a little and somewhat "mold" it, but wasn't that hard. 5 minutes with a bic lighter and it fits like a glove. I'm looking at getting a Raven Concealment for my FNP45 since I bought a TLR-1 to go on it.

I just received 2 of the DSG Alpha holsters, one for my FNP-45 and one for my FNP-45T with TLR-1 light and Trijicon RMR sight.

I am disappointed that they mold this thing formed to fit the safety in the "FIRE" position on a pistol designed to be carried "cocked and locked."

The safety can be moved to "SAFE" but it pushes or flexes the side wall of the holster out, and the safety selector is most secure or at rest in the molded notch at the "FIRE" position. I'm not comfortable with that. If I only intended to carry this pistol as though it were a double-action-only, it would be OK I guess, but that is not my intention.

Here is the selector in the "SAFE" position:

The pictures above are of my FNP-45, my FNP-45T has the same problem with the molding of the safety position, plus there is not enough clearance for the Trijicon RMR. I will have to attempt to cut away about 1/4" of the kydex material on the top of the slide to allow the RMR sight if I am going to keep it.

I'll probably send them back.

EDIT TO ADD: See my post on page 2, DSG Arms redesigned this model holster, pics posted on page 2.

You can make small adjustments to the kydex with a hair dryer so you probably could reshape it just around the safety for cocked and locked ...becareful if you do because a hair dryer has enough heat to make the kydex very soft and moldable.

You would want to just heat up a small area around the saftey and work fast because it will start to stiffen faster than you expect.

Other than the things you stated is the holster comfortable to wear?

UPDATE: I just got an unexpected call from DSG Arms, apparently they read my posting and investigated the matter. According to DSG, the prototype holster that they accepted for production was molded to support the selector in the "SAFE" position, but somewhere along the line in production, the sample gun that was used for the molding got switched to "FIRE."

They are having all current inventory of these sent back to be reworked to support the safety in the "SAFE" position and they are going to take care of the two holsters I purchased.

Generally I believe in taking care of customer service issues with a vendor directly before going online, and it was not my intent to slam DSG. The customer service on the purchase was great, I just didn't like the design features of the product so I was inclined to return it. I thought other FNP-45 owners would want to know how the holster fit as well. I guess the fact that DSG is both the manufacturer and the retailer in this case is unusual; I never expected the manufacturer would consider changing a design feature based on my feedback.

Anyway, take heart FNP-45 owners, DSG Arms is aware of the issues and they are "on it." They are also going to look into making the FNP-45T holster accept the Trijicon RMR.

Shit I want one in the safety off position. I am going to contact them and see if I can get one of the mistaken ones.

You can order a raven concealment with the safety in either position.

What specific xd holster? Also any details on what exactly you had to heat etc - I really want to go with a serpa for the versatility of their holsters... Any details would be great.

I used a Blackhawk P95 Serpa holster for my FNP45Tac and I had to remove the angles in the bottom of the holster to be flat (file or dremel) and I made a cut down the rear of the trigger housing a little as the trigger guard is a slightly wider than a P95. But it works well and have carried it almost a year like this. Locks in just fine.

I don't have pics yet as I'm at work, but I'll try and get them up.

I also make kydex holsters on the side and will get one made for me with a TLR-1 as soon as I get time.

This.

I have a holster by Jason for my CZ P-07 Duty, I will be picking up another for my FNP .45 soon enough. Great holsters, great prices and fast service.

My Raven Concealment holster is in production, at last.

Not something I'd recommend for a class you're taking "soon", though.

RCS holster and mag carrier got here today! Pics to follow.
To be fair, that's not really trolling. With a screen name like arfcommer that's more like walking up to the enemy holding the regimental colors and slapping them in the mouth with your dick.

I know this is a relatively older thread, but I bought the shooter's pack a few months ago, and I must say that the Bladetech holster is very nice for a Kydex holster. Good retention and smooth reholster and draw.

Okay, so I'm a bit slow to follow up. Life's been busy.

That thing is seriously form fitting. I mean, turn it upside down, loaded with 15+1, shake it up and down moderately, the FNP stayed put solidly. Still draws easily enough at need, so I'd say excellent job.

I'll see what I can do. At the moment, they're just the standard RCS hard OWB loops, but I also picked up a set of their tuckable soft loops for IWB carry.

Can you do me a HUGE favor? Can you post pics of you wearing that OWB, OWB with a shirt over it and IWB with a shirt?
