THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I took my AR24 to the range on Sunday, and it was nothing but frustrating. I purchase it about 3 years ago, but I haven't been shooting in the last year.

I picked up some RMS 124gr at WalMart last week, and some American Eagle 124 gr at Dick's.

I shot 200 rounds, and experience numerous stove pipes and two FTFs. The FTFs were a pain, because a round was chambered correctly, and the next round in the magazine seemed to have started to load, and jammed whole action. To clear this, I pushed stuck my finger through the ejection port, and pushed the top round in the magazine down. That freed up the magazine, do I could eject it, and shove it back in, and keep shooting.

I had lots of stovepipes.

The odd issue is that I have shot about 1500 rounds through this weapon, and hadn't had a FTF since the 1st couple of hundred, and I can't remember the last time I had a stovepipe.

I guess that this could be a ammo issue or limp wristing - but this is my "must go bang" gun.

Not sure how to proceed. For right now, I guess that my Ruger Blackhawk in 45 LC will be my "must go bang" gun - it really has gone bang every time I pulled the trigger.

Frustrating.

Did you read this thread? AR-24 Range Report as promised.

What was the production date of your pistol?

In this thread you can find what Viper1357 did to fix his issues with AE ammo and other issues with his AR-24 New owner of a used AR 24K

How do I determine the production date? I bought the pistol in November of 2007.

The serial number is US183XXX.

The good news is that I just looked at the warranty card, and it came with a five year warranty.

I think I'd rather ship it back to Armalite and see if they can fix it as opposed to trying some of the mods in the posts you have cited.

Harry Callahan said, "A man's got to know his limitations!" - and I clearly don't have the skills to mess around with the innards of a pistol.

The date should have been in the box when you opened it. Many of the first pistols were made in late 2006/early 2007. Armalite should be able to help you.

CZ-USA now uses Wolff Gun Springs from their custom shop because the CZ's, over time, had iffy springs. Also, due to the extractor groove angle, CZ's also did not like WWB ammo. Wonder if some of these issues transferred over to the AR-24?

I just got an RMA number from Armalite. It will be interesting to see what they do.

Thanks for your help.

I never read my warranty card, but that's interesting.

EAA Witness springs will fit the Armalites. Since Armalite doesn't really sell them, it's not like you have a choice. Like a CZ, your wrist starting to hurt and your hands going numb when shooting full house loads is the pistol's way to telling you it wanted a new recoil spring long ago. Your groups will probably open up before that time. Given their pricing, swapping them out every 5000 rounds or so is prudent, but as CZ has found, the Wolff springs don't wear out nearly as fast.

The extractors are different though. Mine has no trouble with Winchester brass, WWB or otherwise, although it's been years since I actually shot WWB.

When I was packing the pistol up to send it to Armalite, I realized that I had the little envelope with the spent test round from Sarsilmaz. That envelope had a date of 10.02.2007, so my guess is that the production date was in February of 2007.

Are there known issues from early production dates that have been fixed in later runs?

See the threads from Viper1357 and Kylaer_

Do not know if these have been fixed. Let Armalite know about any issues you have.

Wow, I am impressed with the speed of Armalite service. They had the pistol back to me in a week. I haven't shot it yet, but the packing list says:

R+R RECOIL SPRING. CLEAN
R+R EXTRACTOR

What does "R+R" mean? Repair and Replace? Repair or Replace? Something else?

The extractor may look different - I really can't tell.

Remove and Replace or Repair and Replace are to only meaning that come to mind.

It means either Remove and Replace or Remove and Repair. Most times it means Remove and Replace.
