Recently we noticed a trend-serious operators were ordering more lightweight 5” guns than ever before. They wanted the reliability and sight radius of the 5” gun

So less than 5 inch guns are not reliable?

Interesting, as http://bobmarvelcustomguns.com/ says that he cuts down full size slides to Commander length as that gives a .2 inch increase in slide travel over factory-made commander length slides to increase reliability.

Any comments?

Wilson makes this in a Compact model too. If Wilson didn't think they were reliable, I'm sure they wouldn't sell them. Nonetheless, there are many in the 1911 community who feel that the 5incher is the mist reliable of the 1911 guns.

With that said, there is no doubt you can build reliable 1911s with 4 & 3 inch barrels.

If I were to buy an ultralight, make mine a compact.

If I needed to use a handgun to defend my life and those of my family, I would not think that spending a pretty penny for "every shot counts" reliability is too much.

The issue with that is, you can spend $500 for a reliable gun, you're paying for bells and whistles.

I wouldn't mind having 1 of these in a .9mm.  Only in a shorter barrel carry version would be nice!
