Thinking about the Ruger MK upper thread and a project I've been working on... I want a custom gun for parts gun money, so I am going to fabricate most of it myself.

Im hoping to make a 10" stainless pistol with quick change barrels, a rail underneath with target sights and 1911 style mags to start (camp gun/plinker). If it goes well I want to go for something fun/unique.

The big question I have for my project is, what hardness should the bolt/bolt face be, and can I machine it on my tiny lathe if I buy hardened stock or will I have to harden it after.

So, if you were to design your own .22lr pistol, what features would you incorporate?

Barrel length?

Sights?

Materials?

Weight?

Rails?

Magazines/release?

Action?

Rails, Storage, Other?

I would buy a beater $150 ruger standard or 22/45 that has been neglected and start from there will be easier and cheaper than fabricating yourself
