i just don't know what style I want.

Do I want the tactical look such as an M&P & Walther or do I want a Ruger 22/45?

It is for plinking and just general target shooting.

What are the pros and cons of both?

Thanks

Skip the tacticals. They're just a fad & your grand-kids will appreciate a traditional rimfire more, IMO.

I have both the Browning Buckmark & a S&W 22A1. Both are top notch & mags are cheap & plentiful.

This Buckmark model is the Whisper. It's factory threaded for a suppressor. The non-threaded model is the Camper.

Another model to ponder is a CZ Kadet. Very high quality!

I have P22, it has treated me well. Not so for some folks.
I shot a 22/45 with a integral suppressor.

it was almost as nice as my suppressed Buckmark Camper.

I would buy the 22/45 over the P22.

Browning Buckmark, Ruger, or Smith 22A.  Almost all of the tacticals are smaller than their "real" counter parts.  The only one I've seen run with any reliability is the Ruger SR22 and the grip on that is pretty small.  I agree the tactical thing is a fad.

I have owned a couple 22/45's, a M&P22c, and a SR22. The SR22 and M&P are/were super reliable. I did sell the M&P to get a 22/45 because it makes a better suppressor host...

All work just fine.

I've got one and really like it. But if you want a red dot go with the 22/45 threaded. I had a hell of a time getting my sr22 to accept a fastfire.

I'd go with a Volquartsen setup...  22/45 frame and LLV upper and you're golden.  And also out quite a bit of money!

I'm wanting a Walther PPQ in .22LR.  Full sized tactical.  Comes apart in the "modern" way; no more futzing with the Ruger mainspring flip.  I have a S&W 22A, and really like it, a M&P compact, a Mosquito and  SR22, and a couple of MK II's and III's.  I'd kinda suggest the MK III's, but most people do some mods to get them to a more "reliable" state.  Parts are popular, and you can put an upgraded set of fiber optic sigts and/or a red dot thingy on it.  The Ruger reassembly flip tricks can be mastered with a bit of practice.

If you can handle a PPQ, please do so and report back.  If you buy one, def. post pics and a range report.

I've had a SIg Mosquito for years and love the thing. It is however,VERY picky on ammo (CCI minimag is all I've found that it runs consistently) mags are not cheap, and if you don't clean it often it will malfunction.
