I'm looking at picking up a .22 handgun and I'm stuck between 2 models.  What would the hive reccomend?

Ruger Mk III

Sig Mosquito

Seriously?

From what I've seen and read, the mosquito is shit.

Ruger FTW

ETA: The Ruger SR22 is also one of the more reliable ones.

BUYER BEWARE: THE MOSQUITO SUCKS GORILLA ASS AND LIKES IT..........
Seriously, the mosquito is a horrible weapon, Sig should apologize to every one who bought one and give them some free stuff. They are so picky on ammo that it makes it miserable to shoot, I tried everything to get mine to work, did everything Sig said to do, even sent it back to them and they replaced some stuff, it still didn't work. I was so happy the day I got rid of it. If you want a good service style .22 poistol go with the S&W MP 22
Do not buy a mosquito at all costs, I don't care if you know a guy selling it for 5 bucks, there is a reason it is being sold cheap.
ETA: Fix spelling error b-4 GD finds me and tars and feathers me....

ETA: Ooops, thought I was still in GD.... LMAO.... I should tone down the humor. But seriously, do not buy a mosquito, you will regret it.

lol. you could always buy a glock frame and buy one of the .22 conversion slides. Not sure about their reliability either though.

Doesn't matter. Sig approved it and put their name on it, and they are still allowing them to be made. They should have flushed that project long ago.

The Sig and the Ruger are at the two opposite ends of the whole shoots most any ammo reliably /hardly shoots any ammo without chokeing scale .

I am not a real fan of the Mark IIIs new features of the magazine safety and the loaded chamber indicator. I have a Mark I and a Mark II which are fine guns

You could say the same thing about Colt etc.

The .22 conversion for my 938 rocks.

What you should ask is what is better the Ruger MKIII or the Browning Buckmark.  Then you have some competition.

1950's 6" standard model semi auto still running after factory refurb.  1990's Government Model Target with red dot is go to for less and less vision old man.  SR22P is a neat trainer for self and kids.  All 100% with CCI MiniMags, CCI Blazer, OLD Remington 40/36 RN/HP ammo.

Had Mosquito.  Two factory trips.  Never worked.  Guy bought it KNOWING is didn't work well.  Made no sense to me.  Would not eject.  Would not feed.

At least it would be a fair match-up.

The misqueto is a nice hand fitting size, has decent sights and a nice trigger . when you handle it the appearance is of a nicely finished quality firearm.

Function of most examples is quite poor.
I heard from a instructor at the Sig academy that the problem was a tight chamber. Not really sure , some folks seem to have guns that work fine if you clean, lube and feed them select ammo , many folks have guns that have gone back to Sig several times and still don't run well.

The Rugers seem to work no mater how they are cared for with most any ammo and the Buckmarks are nearly as good .

I have little direct hands on experience but  the Sig rimfire conversions for their centerfire guns get overall good rieviews . There is a lot to be said for a conversion that gives you the same trigger , similar sights and weight to your carry gun for training
