Just bought one a month ago. I'm also looking at some better (more visible), rear sight options. I did put the gemtech adapter but thats it so far.
Hopefully some suppliers will get some "stuff" out there. |

I think I misunderstood your original post. Overall, it's a solid handgun, with no real issues. The major thing that folks do with it, is change out the rear sight. Other than that, it's all personal preference. |

I removed the thumb safeties, changed out the rear, stippled and Cerakoted the frame and put on the SilencerCo P22 threaded barrel adapter. I need to order 10-8 FO front and U notch rear to match the rest of the family.

Thread adapter for my Sparrow and a set of Tru-Glo night sights.
I would like to eliminate the magazine disconnect and see how it affects the trigger, but I have had a heck of a time finding an exploded diagram or directions on how to do it. The safety doesn't really bother me, so I've left it alone. |

Frames are easy, take only a couple minutes to spray and an hour and a half to bake. |

You can bake polymer, you just do it at a lower temperature than you'd bake the metal bits. My Cerakote guy said he does it all the time... Bakes metal parts at 250° and polymer at 185°. He told me that when I picked-up my latest Cerakote project, and my wheels started turning.
To contribute to the OP - All I've done to mine so far is add the Gemtech adapter for my can. I have plans to remove the safety (if I can find a good way to do it and plug the frame) and swap the sights. The sights are too low for shooting with my can. |

Nothing much NEEDED on these guns but I felt the need to remove the thumb safety and swap the rear for an OE rear from a centerfire M&P. A centerfire M&P front will fit with some careful filing but I left mine. I installed a YHM thread adapter but am going to swap that for a SilencerCo adapter to better match my SS Sparrow.

That brings to mind the only gripe I have with the platform: Why in blue hell isn't there an exploded parts diagram available for this pistol?!

Anyone have luck with other rear sights? I called S&W and tried to get a new one for free with no luck. They said because the slide is aluminum and the rear sight is steel it would damage it. I dislike that there is no dots... Any Aluminum rear sights besides the stock one?
Also the full size the thumb safety is an option unlike the M&P22 and they sell for $3 covers for the hole anyone try fitting them do they work on the 22? S&W did not seem to know. |

New M&P22 owner here;
I thought about removing the thumb safety too, but aren't you guys concerned about the fact that this is really a traditional, hammer dropping single-action pistol, and not a striker-fired weapon like the original M&P? In other words, it seems like bad ju-ju, kinda like removing the thumb safety on 1911 |

I had the same result when I called S&W, no freebie so I finally found one on the boards. The steel rear for the centerfire pistols does indeed work. I have it on mine and at least a handful of guys here have the same. The front however, will not fit without some modification(filing). I removed my thumb safeties, just as I did on my 9c, no covers on either and no issues on either. I even carried my 9c for a year. If i can find the plugs for $5 shipped I'll buy them, otherwise no need. |
