Beautiful pistol. Did you black out the white dot sights on it? It kind of looks like it from the angle.

The base gun was a loaded and the tritium fell out before I got it. The sights are going to get replaced I just haven’t got to it yet. Too many projects

Holy shit funny you say that.  My Pro’s front tritium fell out, and where I  shoot the lighting is such that the rear sights would glow and draw my attention to them instead of the front sight. So I said fuck it and blacked them all out as a stop gap Until I get some new sights...and in doing so made it so much better of a sight picture I might just keep it that way.

ICQBP project

The Ed Brown Safety is going to require more fitting than my skill set can handle. I went at the rear sight as best as I could and couldn’t get it to budge. Need a bigger hammer apparently.  So it’ll get sent off for those two items. Still mulling over engraving and deleting the slide rollmark. Pretty happy with it so far.

There are some King's 201AW safeties on EBay right now.  You would need to reshape the strong side, but should be able to make it come out like a 201A.

Yep and they are legit. I ordered and received one a couple weeks ago. And reshaping the strong side is the plan.

Can’t tell you how hard it was to take this pic lol

The rear is a plain black .140 wide notch

First photo appears to be DET-1 pistols. Second picture is all 1911 without ICQB.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:USMC-07568.jpg

Interestingly 2nd photo showed a early version of MEUSOC pistol with vertical serrations that don't see often in the photos publicly released as those represent early variant.

Looks great, thanks for the pics!

I wonder how a plain black rear sights and a gold bead front sight would look?

I’m rejoining this party after years away from owning a shooter 1911. Don’t want to butcher my 1913 Colt. I have a Kimber CC I on the way. Ambidextrous safety (lefty) and lanyard loop MSH is first in the to buy list. I think I have the Packmeyers from my last build around somewhere...

ETA: Who are people using for lanyard loop MSHs? Caspian doesn’t seem to have them. Kimber? C&S?

They are on Smith and Alexander’s website. But I think you have to call or email them.

On my variant 4 I bought a usgi and had it serrated. On my Kimber ICQB-P I used the Kimber mainspring from my Warrior.

I got the Ed Brown grip safety to fit and function however, she needs a lot of blending and is borderline uncomfortable as is.

So how hard is it to find someone to build one of these now? I have pretty much all the parts (from the parts list) for a variant 4 sitting in a box under my bed. Still need to pick up a MSH, Caspian frame and Springfield loaded slide but wondering if I should continue the project or if its hard to find a former PWS who builds these.

Wow appreciate that! Now I have to decide if I'm going to finish finding parts so I can send it off, or sell them to a better home. Hardly ever shoot my M45A1 as is, but these are such iconic and great looking pistols.

Hello, just joined this thread because Im looking for a Colt M45A1 in the brown ionbond for sale somewhere and can only seem to see them on gunbroker. Is Colt still producing these pistols? Thought you guys might know and know where to look. Never was a 1911 guy, but seeing Garandthumbs video on this pistol made me want one really bad. Thanks for any info yall, great looking pistols by the way. Love the pictures

@tsailor

I have heard that they are not discontinued, but Colt being Colt who knows when the next production run will be done.

U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Allen Rhee, a radio operator with Force Reconnaissance Platoon, Maritime Raid Force (MRF), aims an M45A1 pistol during marksmanship training and qualification at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 16, 2017. MRF specializes in amphibious reconnaissance; vessel Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations; and limited combat operations as the reconnaissance element for the 31st MEU. As the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed unit, the 31st MEU’s air-ground-logistics team provides a flexible force, ready to perform a wide range of military operations, from limited combat to humanitarian assistance operations, throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. The following one is interesting. USMC marked slide with Ionbond finish side by side with other Cerakote finished pistols. The photo was taken last year, appeared that some units continue to use those old Cerakote M45A1 in deployment instead of turn in for newer Ionbond finished pistols.

PACIFIC OCEAN (May 24, 2019) Marines assigned to 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) fire Colt 1911 M45A1 close-quarters battle pistols on the flight deck of amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4) during a small arms gun shoot. The Boxer Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) are deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to support regional stability, reassure partners and allies, and maintain a presence to respond to any crisis ranging from humanitarian assistance to contingency operations.
