I'm looking at getting a commander size 1911 in 9mm. I've been looking at a couple of different ones, but can't decide which to go with.

So far, I have looked at the Springfield Armory, Colt, and a Kimber.

I liked the Kimber...but I am leery of going with them after some of the issues I've read about them.

So, what does everyone recommend?

If your name is Darren Wilson you should probably buy a Wilson

Or one of these

Dan Wesson Valor Commander

Wilson is basically unobtanium for me, otherwise I'd have one. Or two. Or Three. My Ruger full size is a great value, and I like the way the way they conduct their business. Definitely pro 2A.

My opinion is that's Ruger territory. Great company and good value. Every part is made in the US, by them.

I bought a Rock Island 2011 MS Tac. Its commander size with the full lenght rail. The gun is heavy as hell. Almost zero recoil and super reliable. Accuracy is awesome. I do not regret the purchase at all! I think Ipaid $525 otd also. Cant beat it.

This is what you need:

DW Valor 9mm SS

Amazing price: $1,284 for a $1,700 High Quality USA 1911 Pistol.

Good luck.

I have a Ruger 9mm LW 1911 Commander and it shoots great. It's been 100% reliable thru over 650 rounds, 200 were 124gr Gold Dots. It has a ramped barrel so no problems with HPs digging at the frame. It shoots to POA out to 45Ft for me. Excellent pistol for a very good price and made in America!!

I finally settled on the Colt Combat Commander! Picked it up last night.

So, who do you guys recommend for doing a trigger job on it? Would like to find someone here in Ohio, but I'm not opposed to shipping it out either.

My 9mm valor commander has been back to DW twice for FTF and FTE issues and still doesn't work.  I don't trust it any more and don't want it but I can't sell it in good conscious.  Im going to have to send it off and get it worked on by a custom shop.  Ive read lots of good reviews on them so I know that many of them work great.  My experience has been different though.  I am a sample size of one so that that for what its worth.

IMO commander size 9mm 1911s are very tricky to get to run 100%.  Ill be into mine what it would have cost to buy a WC by the time its all said and done.  I wish i would have just gone with the WC to begin with.

No way I would buy a new Kimber...

Springfield Armory has the new "Elite" series of Champion 1911's, even though I'm not a big fan of bull barrels this would be my choice with your budget.

Was choosing a new CCW and just came away from reading lots of online reviews.  Came down to a DW Guardian vs A CZ P01 SDP and I  bought the latter given the application.  However all the reviews and my limited experience with DW (2009 full size Valor) would make me confident in getting one.  Actually would still like a DW 9mm.
