I started out as a big 1911 proponent and have kind of gone full circle.  But after carrying Glocks I have a hard time transitioning to a steel 5" gun.  I don't have much for a caliber debate, 9mm is fine.  I think I prefer a traditional commander lightweight.

One just like that in either 45 or 9mm in the winter but I'm going to be transitioning to a Sig 938 ( I know it's not technically a 1911 but pretty close) once I get more rounds through it and prove it reliable.

I also have a 38 Super LW commander I want to work in there somewhere

I don't have one, but something in CCO size (Officer frame, Cmdr slide) with an aluminum frame would hit pretty close to the mark.  I have a couple of steel 9mm Commander sized guns but I rarely carry them.

I'm really glad I have never been able to get my hands on a 9mm 1911. I need money for food.

I have a RIA full size I use for states with mag limits instead of my glocks.

If I was looking for every day carry and did not already have a standard 1911 with lots of mags, i would probably go with a springfield emp (assuming I could afford it.).  My girl friend is torn between the emp and a glock 19.  Glock is most likely going to win because I have tons of accessories, she shoots it well and is not into guns enough to drop 1K plus on her first one.

Just picked up this holster for a full team Ruger setup. 9mm lightweight commander. As much as I want to get all fancy with the grips, those Houge grips are amazing and I can't change out performance for looks.

Yep, my thoughts as well, and I have been a "1911 Guy" for years...   ...but in 45 ACP.

Colt Combat Commander Lightweight in 9mm or a Defender. Once you go to a 9mm 1911, you'll never go back to .45.

I'm thinking either a Colt Defender or a Springfield Armory EMP4....tending toward the latter.

"If" I was going with the 9mm 1911 package, it would be this too: Colt Combat Commander Lightweight in 9mm.

A Colt lightweight Commander is aluminum, Combat Commander is steel frame.

I used to have a Citadel 9mm 1911, and it was a very nice pistol. My only complaint was that some of the controls had sharp edges, and I had to drift the rear sight to get it zeroed. It was a very accurate pistol and well-built.

My vote is the EMP4.  It has all the features I wanted.   The only thing I've done is change the grips out and black out the rear sight white dots.  David

Colt Defender!  I have a nine mm and a .45.  The nine is a breeze to shoot but I carry the .45.

I have 9mm 1911 built from mostly Fusion parts. It has a threaded barrel so I can use it as a suppressor host. Took a few tries to get all the bugs worked out, but now it runs really well. I don't carry it because I have not shot it enough yet.

Now that I think about this thread more it really leaves me wondering why there's not more love for and thus more manufacturers of good modern 38 Super guns?

I'm looking at you Colt!

I'd buy a third Defender if you made it in 38 Super!

I have a Ruger LW Commander 9mm that I carry when my back gives me fits from arthritis and I can't carry my Colt 45acp 1911. I have 640 rounds of HST hollow points thru it with no failures of any type.

My 1st pistol was a Colt in .38 Super. I wish I had kept it but I sold it because it was so expensive to shoot. It was $25 a box 35 years ago when I could get .45 reloads for $4.50 a box.
