I just picked up a Colt from 1924. The finish is completely worn off ( the old Vet I got it from took some flitz to it years ago and polished it up). It's in perfect condition other than the finish. The only pieces not original are the springs and the magazines. It functions flawlessly. The frame, barrel, slide and grips are all original and have appropriate markings. It is not a military issue model. From what I can tell, in 1924 Colt made 10000 govt issue 1911's and 4999 non military issue. My serial number places this colt in the 3800 range of the 4999 non military issued pistols. I'm hoping to get an approximate idea of what this is worth.

That is really exciting that you got it, congrats. I have no idea what it would be worth, not my field.

The pic has to have a address, a url, you have to put them on a site somewhere to get them a URL. I put mine on Shutterfly.com, it is free, there are better free sites but I dont know them.

URL for this one is https://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d636b3127ccec7b69f8a4bce00000040O00AaMWzFk0ZOGQPbz4S/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00208242161420090817173657744.JPG/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/

Pic must have a unique address. I dont know if free members can post pics or not.

Welcome Newbie. Not nice to make all of us jealous of your find on your first friggin post!

"perfect condition other than the finish" isn't going to bode well for value......sounds like a 800.00 to 1300.00 "shooter".......crispness of markings would help the value....

I can't speak to any "non-military" transitionals.  But as far as the 10k military transitionals go, an example with all original parts and honest wear--even very little original finish remaining--should bring over $3k.  Maybe more if you find the right buyer, since very few unmolested examples are very hard to find.
Having the original finish purposefully removed, however, would hurt that value.  Manually removing the finish frequently rounds edges, dulls markings, etc.

I will be interested to see your photos when you're able to post them.

The 'non-military' pistol is known as the 'Government Model' because of that very name being stamped deeply into it. Take a look - its amazing!
