I have a friend wanting to buy a like new Colt Series 80 from me. It is high polish blue, double diamond wood grips, and in the 281xxxx serial range. All stock, has the Colt's Government Model .45 Automatic Caliber roll mark on the controls side, series 80 on the other. Has seen maybe 20 rounds of use. 2 Colt mags, box, paperwork. Condition is 99% or better.

This is a safe queen that I inherited a couple years ago. I have 2 other 1911's and a SIG 220 that I shoot when I want some .45 action.

What is a reasonable asking price for this rig?

Thanks in advance for any help.

A used 80 series Colt, $650.  Maybe $700 with the box.

Agree that would be a fair price range

It would sell fairly quick at that price.

Thanks for the info gents. I'll start the dealing at $700 and go from there. He has a SIG 2022 in .40 that he's wanting to trade with, but I'm not a fan of that round.

You can find Sig SP2022s all day long for anywhere between $500 and $550 depending on model and features, and that's new...Buds even has a two-tone .40 listed at $471, new. Used are even cheaper...

I wouldn't make that trade unless you a) really hate that 1911 or b) really, really, REALLY want a .40 SP2022

If you inherited the gun from someone who meant  something  to you , I would keep it. You will regret it down the line. Even if you don't presently shoot it . WD

I would usually agree, but I have a handful of other firearms I inherited from my dad, to include his Armalite AR and a S&W M19 that was the first gun I ever shot. This Colt 1911 is a safe queen and excess for my needs.

Not taking on the SIG 2022; don't need it, don't want it. If a cash deal happens, the proceeds will go toward a CNC conversion kit for a Sieg X2 mini mill.
