I handled one of these over the weekend and it really fit me well, unfortunatly I can only find them in the lightweight version.

I checked SA website but no luck there either.

I like the TRP, but the checkering is just too aggressive for my tastes, and the MC operator is green which I have no desire for whatsoever.

I would prefer the RO, but I don't like ambi controls on a 1911, and I don't like night sights.  The magwell is a nice feature on the other though.  I didn't it look it up, but I would think it may be using a FLGR, which I also don't like.

It seems like a few years ago I was having a hard time finding a SA Operator with a carbon steel frame.  It's nice to see more options.

As far as the ambi safety goes, I could take it or leave it.

The night sights however are very much preferred.

Agreed. I can't stand the target sights on the RO series

For less than $50 you can get rid of the FLGR. That, IMHO, shouldn't even be a deciding factor.

Blacked out rear and fiber optic front, those are target sights to me.

Completely useless at night

To each his own.  Black rear red fiber optic front is how all my pistols are set up, at least the ones that aren't stock.

OP, As others have stated, SA offers the Operator line in steel and Aluminum frames. The Lightweight Operator is aluminum and the RO Operator's, TRP Operator's, and Loaded line (the MC Op and LBO) are all steel.

The LBO is a damn nice pistol and the RO Operator isn't bad either.

My LBO and RO Operator's.

So are night sights.  If you don't have a white light, you shouldn't be shooting.  If you have th tools to properly ID a threat, your night sights will just look like a black outline of the sights anyways...

Agreed.  My fiber optics light up like a Christmas tree once my light is on.  Shooting without the light isn't really a concern for me.
