Just bought a black Dan Wesson Specialist.  Any recommendations on magazines or magazines you've found that don't work well?  I was thinking the Chip McCormicks.

ETA: Put it on 90 day layaway with Buds Gun Shop.  It will wear a Surefire X300

On .45 caliber 1911s I specifically and EXCLUSIVELY use Wilson 47, 7 shot mags.  I, personally, do not top the gun off after chambering.  I have had ZERO issues in over 20 years of using these.

DWs are about as top of the line as you can get....they'll handle the 47 with no issues assuming that all things are equal.

I have the very same weapon. I use Tripp Research 8 round magazines. That and Wilson are both top of the line but what I like about Tripp is it fits so well in the magwell sticking just enough below to assure a good seat.

I've never used any magazine other than Tripp 7 round in my Valor.  Never took the factory mags out of the case.  I've never had a stoppage with a Tripp magazine in the gun.

A quality magazine is going to work fine... be it a metalform... or a CMC.. or Tripp Research... or Wilson 47D. Any of them would serve you well...

Mags I use for full size 1911s

-Wilson 47s
-Wilson ETM
-Wilson GI's
-Checkmates
-CMC
-Tripp Cobras
-Colt OEM
-SA GI
-Brownells

I usually label them with paint Sharpies to keep track of them.

I've only used the CMC 10rd Power and Power+ mags in my Specialist.  No issues.

My Specialist came with Checkmate mags. So, I bought a few more of those, and a few wilson.  All have worked out well.

I personally like the Tripp Cobra II's. Never tried anything else, but the Tripps I had never failed me.

Lot of recommendations for the Tripps, I'm going to get 3 or 4 of those I think.  I'm also going to pick up some Wilson ETM's and CMC Power Plus 8 and 10 rounders.

Wilson ETM is a very reliable and well built magazine. You can also get them in black.

This is another thing I like about them!  I would like all my mags in black if I could.

Ordered a Tripp Research 8 rounder, Brownells 8 Rounder, and a Chip McCormick 10 round Power+ mag.  Also got a Wilson Combat ETM the other day.

Any good recommendations on Holsters for a railed 1911 with a Surefire X300?

Although many consider Wilsons the gold standard in 1911 mags, I wouldn't invest in a lot of them until I tried them with the gun. My Colt would not run well with them, but is 100% with factory Colt and CMC mags.

I haven't tried any others.

Have these so far, ordered one Brownells to try then found two on ebay for cheap.  So far I'm liking the body of the Chip McCormick, and the follower of the Tripp Research.  Brownells see nice but I'm not sure I like the roaded top follower, although it is anti tilt.

I ordered a G Code holster for the gun, for their SOC holster they don't have a cowling that fits the X300.  Might just try to find a Safariland and use the RTI hanger for it.

So the gun has been in my possession for about two weeks now.

Initial impression is this is a really nice gun.  I tried all the mags and they seem to fit well, and at first all of them the slide locked back on.  I took it to work and cleaned it and lightly lubed it, it then developed an issue with locking back.  I took it to shoot and put 100 rounds through it, very fun smooth shooting gun.  I have to drift the front sight over, it shoots about 5 inches left at 15ish yards and the front sight is visibly off.  You'd think from the factory they would center the sights.  In the 100 rounds I had only one Brownells mag that failed to lock back on last round, the rest no problems.  I had one fail to feed malfunction but that was it.

Initial impressions on the magazines, I really like the CMC Power mag, it feels smooth, feels sturdy and gives the most positive feeling when locking back on the last round.  I'll probably get more of the CMC mags.  I initially liked the Cobra mag, but after playing with it more and using it I'm not sure I like that as much as the CMC and other brands given price and availability.  Brownells 8 rounders, they work well, I like them and the price is even better!  Wilson Mags, they work, and are readily available.  I keep buying them with my Cabelas points, and have a few Cabelas gift cards to burn up on them.

Congrats on the new gun OP.

I have the same one and have used CMC's and the CMI's that shipped with it without issue.

Tripps are the only mags that will work correctly in my 1911.
I have a mix of 8s and 10s, they all work fine. Only criticism is the rather large base pads.

For .45 ACP I haven't found a better magazine than ACT-MAG

ACT-MAG are OEM for Nighhawk, S&W, Sig Sauer, STI, and several others.  They are the best quality .45 ACP magazines out there right now, and they're very reasonably priced as well.

For every other cartridge, I use Tripp Research.

I missed the part about being 'visibly off'. I see a lot of shooters, mostly newer, shoot away from where they think they are shooting and blame the sights. Doesn't seem the be the case here.

I agree as a firearms instructor, lots of people tend to blame the gun instead of themselves.  I am not one of them though, I'm not a bad shot that is for sure.

I only buy Tripp mags now.

I have previously had one issue with a CMC Power Mag a couple years back. I sent it in and they just changed the insides - not the whole mag. I still had problems... The follower would get stuck down in the body. After dealing with so much grief with them to get the mag back the first time - I gave up with them and just threw it away after that.
