I getting a Springfield armory 1911A1 in a few weeks and now starting to gear up to reload for it.
Until I get everything in I am thinking about getting some cheep wolf ammo just to shoot some from it.

Anything to watch for when shooting the wolf? I understand some just can't stand this stuff and others love it. I just want cheep for the first box or two. I already have a few hundred cases waiting on dies and bullets.

Finslayer83 shoots nothing but Wolf and Federal aluminum-cased stuff through his TRP. I did the same with my E-Series S&W 1911, and it shot it all without issues. Between us we have many thousands of trouble-free rounds through our guns.

If you are going to get into reloading purchase the brass case ammo and save your brass.

You will need all the brass you can get.

PSA was selling 230 grain S&B brass case copper jacket for $13.99/50 so I bought 2 cases.

They raised the price to $14.99 but it's still a good buy.

My usual range ammo is 230 grain FMJ Fiocchi which I pick up in quantity from PSA when they have it on sale for $16.99 or $17.99 with free shipping.

How much are you paying for the steel case, steel jacketed, bimetal bullet Wolf?

Even if you pay retail for the first 2 boxes of ammo you run through your new pistol, why break it in with cheap, inaccurate, dirty, steel case, bimetal bullet stuff?

It won"t harm the pistol but why not try out a new gun with better ammo?

I've run about 500 rounds of Tula through my Colt Railgun. Only thing difference was a loss of accuracy.

It is a new to me 1911A1. I really don't want to pay top $$ to test it and the mags out then only find out there is an issue

my TRP eats the shit out of it.

3,000+ rounds and no failures

Of the 7 Springers I own the only one that doesn't  like steel cased ammo is the .45 super.
It will eat brass and aluminium all day but chokes on steel.
Oh and it's not a conversion it's a factory produced gun.

you can find range brass in the ee fairly cheap

reloading is the way to go if you haven't thought about it.

I've shot about 10K rounds of Wolf through a Springfield Custom with no malfunctions or stoppages.  Accuracy is mediocre, but plenty good for action pistol matches.  It's loaded a little light so the reduced recoil is an added bonus.

I just bought a box of steel case tula and  box of Perfecta Brass case  The perfecta was $16.99 for 50 and the tula was $19.99 a box. I bought the tula  from a  gun shop, I went to walmart and they had the  perfecta for the $16.99. I should have gone to walmart first.

Don't be afraid of Federal aluminum cased ammo, either. $14-15/50@ Walmart, which is cheaper than Blazer by a few bucks.

I shot a box of Tula through my Springer GI last Saturday. One of many, many boxes without a problem.

Shouldn't hurt it.  They issued steel cased .45 in WWII.

A couple cases of Wolf ammo through my RIA GI with no glitches before I turned it into a host for my Marvel upper. I agree with the comment above about accuracy.

I love that stuff when I'm at a range that don't allow reloads. Wolf/Tula is good to go too. If you are reloading later and can find the perfecta buy that, shoots great and good brass.

My Rock Island loves the Fed aluminum cased stuff.  The Tula steel case jams in it. Its the dirtiest of all the steel case I have shot.
9MM and 5.56 and AK ammo all good to go. Mine doesnt like the 45 acp steel case.

I tried a box of steel cased stuff in my Kimber one time and had nothing but issues with it. Tried a box of federal aluminum case stuff and not one issue. Still nervous about using the aluminum stuff as I haven't been able to do a real thorough test with it. Plus brass case stuff is just as plentiful as the aluminum stuff. But for its price I may have to get a couple more boxes and see how well it really likes it.

That's because it was a Kimber and something was wrong with it.

Like I said.  My Springfield Custom ate at least 10K of steel with zero issues.

I've shot a lot of that Federal ammo over the past few months, both in 9mm and .45 ACP. Never any problems.

ETA- I've been shooting Blazer ammo, the same stuff as the Federal, since 1987 and have never had any problems.

I've shot thousands of rounds of steal and aluminum cased ammo both in 9mm and 45acp with no problems at all.

Steel/aluminum cased stuff is good to go.

Hell, I even reload steel cases and shoot them at "lost brass" matches.

No problems at all.

From what I have heard steel cases beat on the extractor of the 1911. I have no proof one way or another.
In my 1911's I only run brass. I also save my brass as I am able to reload it, so a box of 50 ends up costing me $10.
I still don't use steel in my Glocks, but have shot a huge amount of Blazer Alumnium through them without a problem.

Who knows. Just replaced recoil spring so that would help. And aluminum case ammo is around the same price as the steel case around me.

Pretty much anymore, unless I've come across enough Winny Ranger 147 T/147 B's to be running those through it, all my 1911 eats is steel case.

That's all my AR eats, too.

By the time I've shot enough of the bi-metal through a barrel to wear it out, I could literally buy another 1911 with what I saved.

That said, I usually get the Silver Bear over the Tulapoop, simply because it's slightly nicer shit ammo.
