This kinda looks like a new way to beat up a 1911 (or any 45 for that matter).

It's a thick web case with a small rifle primer (yea... that sounds good already) with more gun powder in it (even better; right).

So has any one here have experience with using the  450 Short Magnum Cartridge?

So... What's it actually do better?

Does it make the projectile expand more than a 230gr HST?

If it doesn't... All it is really doing is beating your gun up more and slowing your follow up shots.

Once good expansion and penetration are achieved, additional velocity doesn't really do anything better with pistols. You have to get into rifle velocities (>2,000fps) before you get noticeably larger permanent wound channels by increasing velocity.

It's likely to be a superior hunting round over regular .45 ACP.

For what kind of game?

If you need a boost in penetration for larger/tougher animals, sure (with the right projectile)... Otherwise, it's not really going to offer much over .45ACP.

Exactly.

I know nothing about the .45SMC.  Might offer a flatter trajectory?

The .450 SMC was created so Triton and others wouldn't need to pay Ace Custom the licensing fee for using the .45 Super trademark.  While SMC officially means Short Magnum Cartridge, the real designation was far more colorful, uttered by a Triton exec after Ace Custom demanded a per-round fee.

Oh... finally;

Is this SMC any hotter or is it the same as the super?

Any place to get more info than the "buy now" icon?

The following link should take you to a forum post in which Triton's former owner, Fernando Coelho,  discusses the .45 Super and .450 SMC.
