Looking for one of the 2, who has got the best deal on either and what model is a good one, new to either brand, only interested in 45 or 9mm and full size but preferrably a commander
Update Grabbed a dan wesson heritage last black friday and am looking at swapping out the plain grips on it. I like the looks of the DW shadow grips and just looking to see who knows if they will slide right on or need longer screws or ? |
[#1]
Either would be a good choice. Colt is going to add a few 9mms next year.
Me, I prefer Colt. ETA: couldn't tell you what sort of deals are out there, as you haven't stated a preference for a particular model. You have to decide what sort of features you want. |
[#2]
Can't speak for a 9mm 1911, but for 45acp, I would opt for the Wesson's.
I have nothing against Colt but they don't really offer anything out of the box that I particularly want. The Valor was 99% exactly what I wanted. Doubt you could go wrong with either. |
[#4]
Im looking at the dan wesson heriatge and colts similiar priced
[#5]
Dan Wesson is a higher quality 1911 than Colt. For the money, Dan Wesson will be higher quality then anything else outside of getting a deal on a semi-custom, like Baer, WC, NH, etc.
I wouldn't think twice about choosing a Dan Wesson over Colt. There are some good deals for Heritages on gun broker, some are blem models. Which usually seem to be reported as unnoticeable. |
[#6]
Does anyone like the Dan Wesson ECO? Never see it mentioned.
[#7]
Leaning hard on the dan wesson heritage, found it right at the $1k mark..Also had a quick talk with them and all of the newer heritage 1911's have forged frames instead of the cast they use to.wondering if i should buy now oe hold out to see what black friday brings...
[#8]
From what I read / hear, Dan Wessons are supposed to be fantastic. With that said, I'm a fan of Colt. I have a few, and will buy more.
[#9]
OP, if you're looking at the Heritage, compare it to a Colt XSE.
And don't buy into the fanboyism above saying DW is better than everything. Are they well built; of course. But look at comperable models from Colt and Springfield, and decide which YOU like the most.
[#10]
I have a Dan Wesson Valor and several Colt's pistols. They are both very well made. The DW is superior, however, in every way -- fit, finish, accuracy, etc.
You can find Colt's for good prices sometimes. If you really want a commander, then the DW V-Bob is your huckleberry. |
[#11]
I was going to write a detailed post comparing my DWs to my Custom Shop Colt with pictures and everything. Not a production pistol sent in to Colt, but one build in their shop. I started getting my thoughts together, but realized it's pointless.
My advice OP, buy the pistol you like. They are both fine. |
[#12]
Colt fan here and I have a gun safe full of multiple Colt 1911's.......I do not own a Dan Wesson 1911 but from what I have seen the Heritage and Valor are both very well fit 1911's...buy what feels right
OP: what is your budget? Since Dan Wesson is in play I am going to assume $1000 to $1500? |
[#13]
Trying to stay at the 1000 mark, ditched another 1911 because of plaguing problems, so am stepping up the quality this time..I am a no frills kinda guy and the heritage looks like it's what im after.
Local stores only had specialist and valor to play with, damn did that bobtail feel nice...but not the $1500 price tag..lol To me, the colts trigger seemed not as good, dont like the ambi safety at ,a would have to change, thats a plus for the heritage as its a right hand only..Plus i like the black rear sight on the DW with nite site/white dot front site. Now to find a deal on one or wait to see.. WHAT TO DO GUYS? Anyone see one for less then a $1000 ? The heritage im talking about |

Hey everyone,
My name is Chad Smith, and I'm the owner of Tooele Shooting Supply and TSSWarehouse.com (the link for the $999 Dan Wesson). I just launched the Warehouse site last week and am still going through some growing pains. I suddenly saw a bunch of traffic go to that CZ Dan Wesson RZ-45 and realized that the price on that for $999.90 was actually my wholesale cost, rather than sale cost! Long story short, I had to edit the price. It's still on sale, and it's pretty much at the lowest I can stomach without losing money (3% CC fees cut into my profit margin quite a bit, and I don't pass those charges on to you). However, if anyone was actually interested in it, I've set up a $15 off coupon to give free shipping on that handgun. It's only valid for that product, but if you're interested the code is "DW01981" (no quotes). Again, I'm sorry for the mix-up and I hope nobody's hopes got too high! Price is now $1,061.90. -Chad Smith |

If you would have honored the original price, i would of probably said lets do it...Let me think on it....Oh and its 1078.99 or something...Buds beats that by a little margin if you play there make an offer game..like 1018 or something Edit, but thanks for stepping and letting us know, it was still in my cart at the 999.99 price..Waiting for me to checkout...now its $1,079.84 |
[#21]
Yeah... I'm really sorry about that! And for some reason the site caches the prices until it's added to the cart, but if you add it you'll notice the price changes to $1061.90, which would be out-the-door with the $15 off coupon.
Or you're welcome to give me a call at 1-866-471-4867 and I can help you out if it's not working! I definitely can't do $1,018 though, I just can't compete with Buds on their shipping rates (if anyone is interested, UPS requires a 50-package per day shipping amount to qualify for a 2nd-day exemption on handguns, aka impossible to meet for small businesses). I apologize again, definitely didn't mean to throw a wrench into your plans. |
