Yes you do.

Your feedback on them was a main motivator on pulling the trigger so to say.

I've had my TRP for about 8 years, have several thousand rounds down the pipe, and have never had a malfunction or FTF.

People can say what they will about Springfield 1911's....but (with the exception of their double stack model) none of the several I own are anything less than superior.

I'm happier than a pig in shit with my TRP, have not modified it - save for a heavier 18.5# Wolff recoil spring, and have no intentions of changing a thing. IMHO, the TRP is the best value in 1911's today.

^ Agree.

Hitting the range first thing in the morning, will update accordingly.

Wearing some new shoes too, wanted to try out the VZ Slants

Range Report 10-18-14

Ammo:

- 100 rounds of Tula 230 grain bal

Mags:

assortment of Wilson, CMC, OEM,

Summary:

ran like a top, not too thrilled with the VZ slants, but they might grow on me.

It was good to sling lead with you again, Fin. I agree with you about the VZs, as I didn't like the way they gave my thumb a "direction" to slide, but they sure do look nice. I'd trade them for a set of Larry Davidson G10 Warthogs, though, as their previous owner obviously didn't know what he had.

My S&W 1911TA was flawless, as usual, except for being camera-shy today.

Love my TRP just hate the coating on it.  One day I will have it melonited.  But I love the aggressiveness of the factory grips.

Thanks.
Just the light coming through the window behind the gun, it was soft.
Most of what you see is created in Photoshop.

Very nice TRP! But stop feeding it Crap ammo. You really want to keep with American brand ammo companies and ball ammo should be loaded up to "Hardball" velocities. Les Baer recommends Federal American Eagle for break in his guns.
I myself have recently leaned that Winchester white box, which I have shot a ton of is loaded a little on the lighter side. I get a occasional failure to feed the last round out of the mag with acouple of my 1911's.

I suggest you go to http://www.luckygunner.com/ and order yourself a case of some good quality ammo. You will be saving money and headaches in the future.

Thanks for your input but I'll continue to feed it a variety of ammo.

The crap ammo works just fine for putting holes in paper.  How will lucky gunner save me money? My CPR is cheaper than anything they have for sale. What headaches will I also avoid? As you can tell I've had none so far.

Across calibers - I shoot between 10-15k rounds of steel case a year and have had little to zero issues.

I shoot the same crap ammo as the OP, probably because we shoot together a lot, and my S&W E-Series doesn't mind the cheap stuff, either. There's no reason to pay more for ammunition at the ranges we practice, 3ft back to 15yds or so, and cost savings= more shooting. More practice= better shooters if the need arises that we need to use our skills "for keeps".

A certain amount of "Cork-Sniffing" among 1911 shooters is expected, but admonishing the owner of a slick piece like his TRP is silly, especially considering that his gun shoots the cheap stuff without issues.

I have to chime in, having owned my TRP Operator all of one week.  I traded a DW Valor for the TRP, and that was because I could never get it to group to my satisfaction.  10 yards, 12 yards, 25 yards, didn't matter.  I could not shoot it well.  It was partly my eyes, it was partly the sights, and it was mostly the fact the TRP came with adjustable sights, a bull barrel, and it was built like a tank.

On its first trip to the range, the TRP justified the trade.  Right off the bat, it grouped better than the Valor ever had.  And then it grouped much smaller.  I did not expect that.  Springfield's quality is much better than I knew.

Looking forward to my Professional in 3 years.

This is 5 rounds.

I'm looking to get a 1911 to use with my Octane, not unlike you.

What's the best way to get a threaded barrel onto the 1911?

You can see if a drop in storm lake will work. I got their oversized (gunsmith fit) version and sent it to WC for fitting.  Now its hand fit and tight.

I have over 7500 rounds through my TRP.  Zero malfunctions or stoppages of any kind.  I'll never part with it.

Anyone use Magpul grips on their TRP? My dad wants to get some for his but I don't know how the bottom of the grips would work with the mag funnel MSH.

I thought grips were either slim or standard. Standard with flat or magwell cut is what you want.

Yes, I know. I am asking if anyone has tried Magpul grips on a  TRP.

Good buddy has em on his DW specialist.

Magwell dimensions are very similar, the grips work but are not flush like a set of VZ's would be.

There is still a "ledge" that gets hit if you run your finger down it, "they work but aren't visually appealing"

So excited I was able to pick up a new TRP Tactical no rail yesterday. I can't wait to shoot it and run some reloads through her. I have read and heard a lot of good things about this 1911. I have owned a Springfield 1911 before but don't know which model. It had a plastic trigger and adjustable sights but when I left on deployment it got stolen when someone broke into my house (I have a big safe bolted to the floor now...lesson learned). I also have had many Kimbers but haven't kept one yet, now I have an STI and TRP. Keep up the write up, great job.

nice!

I am going to get some more rounds through it next weekend if I get a couple hours to sneak off to the range.

Been shooting rifles more lately and the pistol "pit" is usually slammed by the time I get down there so I just leave.

Recently bought a 5" Springer RO.  Wow, what a nice pistol.  Will carve out the bull at 7yds.  No malfs as of yet.  Love this gun so far.

Hitting the range tomorrow to keep this going.

Packed up and ready to go.

Made it to the range this morning.

TRP ran flawlessly as expected. The accuracy of this pistol is excellent and a blast to shoot.

I've been carrying it in a kydex iwb and it's getting some beautiful wear

It received a proper cleaning (beyond external wipe down) after the three day weekend shoot-fest a while back.

Lately I've just wiped down the outside with a rag and run a snake down the barrel with a squirt of clp

Interesting stuff. I own the same gun, just haven't put it through the paces the OP has.
