Thoughts on the SA mil spec operator w/ full rail?  This isn't the TRP, but it became available in the sub $700 range.  Nice gun, hardly fired.  I know demand for the TRP full rail is high, just not sure on the mil spec which seems to have been produced 2000-2003.  Hot, lukewarm or cold?

If I remember right, some of them had bushingless bull barrel setups where the muzzle end of the barrel locks directly into the slide.  I would not want that in a full sized 1911.

Ya mean a bull barrel? Nothing wrong with that. The champion operator is built that way, very accurate and reliable.

I think springer still makes full size 1911 with the bull barrel setup.

If you wanted a full railed pistol, it would make a nice base pistol at the right purchase price
Bare front strap
GI sight setup
No FCS

My $.02

I had a couple and they were bare bones pistols that had a full rail.  The Milspec Operator are bushing pistols where the TRP full rail is a bull barrel. The other difference is that the Milspec lacked front cocking errations.

They an excellent base for full customs and bring $1000+ in most cases when they can be found. They were pretty rare to begin with and it's been some time since I've seen one pop up anywhere.

What's the advantage over a half rail like the MC Operator? Full rail looks front heavy.

well, I can see the purpose in a game gun with the added weight to help tracking but getting a new barrel fitted to a bushingless slide has to be expensive.  A bushing setup allows more tuneability imo

Not really more "tuneability", just more to tune. Fitment between bushing and slide. Bushing and barrel. Barrel and slide (lock up). It is more tolerance to stack up. Bull barrel reduces it to just barrel and slide fitment. Less tolerance to compound.. At the expensive of being a pain in the ass for takedown (especially for tool-less, unless you use a Dawson guide rod, which is another thing to break) and heavier.

EXCELLENT base gun. Send it to SACS for a beaver tail, novaks, chop the rail(square cut), fit a hammer/trigger/ thumb safety of your choice, and you have an awesome 1911.

Holy Moses!  Did they make a half-rail mil-spec Operator?

Why start with that if you're going to have the rail cut?  It would also look a bit odd IMO if you didn't radius cut the slide after doing so.

I believe it is the only base model, railed 1911 that has ever been offered.  That made them very attractive for custom bases, which is why there are not too many stock ones around anymore.

OOTB, I'd much rather have the MCO, but if you wanted a full house custom 1911 it gives you a starting point with pretty much zero limits IMHO.

I had no idea these existed - they need to take the pistol in the top pic, make it a half-rail with standard slide but otherwise identical - they could then say "Range Operator" and "$799" and then "we're printing our own money"?!?!?

That would be a very cool base gun for mods, but when SA seems to sell every MC Operator that they make, there may be little incentive.

Just out of curiosity, does any other MFG offer a forged steel railed receiver?

For close to the same price as a Armscor full rail gun I say it is a no brainer. Dont like it sell it and move on.

I love my loaded operators and feel they were the best value of the bunch.
