Armscor makes economical basic 1911s in the Philippines.  They are exported and sold in the US under various names.  Rock Island Armory is well regarded, there are others.

ATI has one for $319 on Palmetto State Armory. $289 if you get the refund on time. I got a rock island armory earlier this week for $440

If I was on a budget I'd go with RIA... I've never hear one bad thing about them. Well, one member had a slight problem and RIA sent him a new pistol in short order; no questions asked and fast. I'm tempted to pick one up for my wife honestly because she's putting a LOT of rounds thru my Springfield Loaded...

Try to find a used or Springfield Armory GI, or if your lucky you might stumble across a new one at a gunshop or the interwebs. SA doesn't make them anymore so a new one might be a bit of a challenge though.

What is your definition of "low budget?"

Honestly, I am looking for a 1911A1 that is close to the WW II 1911A1.
Low budget is less than $1k
Must be as true as possible to the military 1911A1

SARCO is selling COLT 1911A1s made in the 1930's and shipped to Argentina for police use. I have one and it is all original. It has seen much use, but it is still a very serviceable pistol. I replaced the recoil spring and ran about 200 rds through it without any failures. The accuracy was mediocre, but more than adequate for self defense. The finish was completely gone on the one that I received, but the markings were still crisp. I think that my total cost delivered was around $550.

RIA is a nice, low budget gun.

Another recommendation for Rock Island. I picked one up a couple months ago and it's completely serviceable. The one issue was that although it worked perfectly with the ACT-Mag that it came with, it wouldn't lock on empty with my normal 1911 magazines. (seven-round colt 53355B) It fed & cycled fine with all mags, but would only lock back with its factory-supplied magazine. I replaced the slide stop with one I had laying around, and it now works with the ACT-mag, my colt mags, Wilson, CMC, you name it.

IIRC, I paid in the high $400's for it. Only have 600-700 rounds thru it, but it's fine so far.

My last original colt World War One 1911 that was an Augusta arsenal rework the real deal cost me less than 800 bucks and a used colt 1918 reproduction was in the same price range. With time and patience you can find the real thing under a. Grand!

You can find an older Colt and still be under your budget - this would be top on my list

The 1991A1 was a nice offering from colt that can be found pretty reasonable - I have one that I is one of my all time favorite handguns. Came with the small sights and was very close to the old specs. I have shot this pistol more than any 1911 I own. The only modification I have made was the sights...the more I shot it - the more I wanted to shoot it - and I found I did not like the original sights. I sent it to NOVAKs and had them mill dovetails in the slide and went with combat adjustable rear and a gold bead up front - a great help for my aging eyes .

Prior to this I owned a Springfield GI that I purchased in 1990 brand new - I know many people give good reviews for this pistol , but I didn't have good luck with the one I had. I experience feed issues with some type of ball ammo and forget about getting hollow points to cycle. This was also the least accurate 1911 I have ever owned. I know guys that have used this a a base for a project, but I was looking for a gun to work out of the box .
I also guess that Springfield may have improved since I had purchased mine....
Also for the record, I like Springfield Armory I own multiple products from this company that I do like - I just did not like the GI model

Look for a Colt 1991 or go for the RIA GI. The RIA is a decent pistol at that price point.

www.gunbroker.com has a Springfield G.I. 1911-A1 used for a $499.00  #430896101  I think it's a good buy for the Springfield Armory G.I.1911-A1.

Or try and find a Norinco. I think mine cost $275 and it was a fairly recent find. If you're not familiar with them then read some about them before you dismiss them.

Norinco are OK, but a little rough.   RIA are a good value for the price, and have an excellent warranty.

With a $1,000 budget, I would look for a Springfield Armory, or a  Colt.    Colt made a run of anniversary 100 Years Service that look very GI original.

Does sarco have any of those or the 1930 colts left?

RIA.  I added some Keyes Fiber grips and an arched mainspring housing to mine.  From a distance it almost looks USGI.  Mine has the older somewhat subdued slide markings.  I think I paid $385 for the pistol, with another $50 or so in add ons.

Shot my RIA yesterday and it ran 100 rounds of FMJ and JHP flawlessly. Very happy with the purchase.

ATI or Rock Island. I think the ATI is cheaper right now but you can't go wrong with RIA for the price.

Budget 1911?

Armscor.

I replaced the recoil spring and magazine.  Oddly, it's very accurate.

Loving my ATI GI enhanced.  The fit and finish is unreal for a 300 dollar firearm.

Besides the real deal Sistemas made on Colt machinery and processes, I could also recommend the increasingly valuable Norincos.

No MIM or cast BS on either.   Better steel than even most American 1911's.   The sistemas are put together with the same fitting and filing that you only get in old, old colts.

You can get into a nice one of either for $600-$750
