THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Back in the late 80`s I bought my first Colt 1911 I took a gamble and bought a S80 Combat Elite with the new fire pin block. Main reason I bought that model because it came THROATED from the factory! The pistol turn out to be a winner. But a years later I had to get rid off it because I had bills to pay I would like to buy another Colt 1911? I would like a 70S but would settle again on a 80S. QUESTION So do any of the 70S come THROATED from the factory Now?? Or is it just some of the 80S I also want Standard GI spec No full length guide rod ! (3 dot sight are fine) Ive been to the Colt website doesnt tell me if the model is throated to feed HP So what models should I look at. |

To sum it up, yes. Both the new series 70s and 80s are throated to feed hollow points. And they both have Short guide rods. They don't have the three dot sights but they are enlarged so you can see them more easily than the old GI sights.
The only difference is the unnesscesary firing pin safetry, making the gun more complicated than is needed. Go with a series 70. |

For "standard" Gov't Model 1911s (S80 or S70) correct, but for any of the XSE series guns (including the Rail Gun, the new Combat Elite, etc) they come with Novak 3 dot sights and an S&A Beavertail. I believe the Combat Elite comes with a full length guide rod but it's a cinch to swap out for a standard short rod and plug. |

To be brutally honest they did have some teething problems, but with the new machinery came a new attitude about customer service, and they actually are really nice to deal with, and very responsive. I wouldn't feel like I was taking a chance on getting a dodgy one if I bought one today. |

I think you are correct, the bugs were worked out in the new machinery in the '09-'10 timeframe. |
