THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I have an old seriers 70 I want to do a full custom on. We have John Yanek and Jim Garthwaite here in PA who have excellent reps but are high end with long wait times. Anyone know a smith that will build a solid, accurate 'working mans" gun for a reasonable price. We used to have George Madore here right down the street. He did a few guns for me in the past but he is unfortunately deceased.

Haven't done any business with him in several years......got bit by the 1911 building bug.......and built several and did a conversion to 9mm......the bug is gone.......but, he did some work on all four of my projects.......He does an exceptional job on barrel fitting and ramp cutting.........

His rates are very reasonable and he has a great turnaround time as well, I was pleased with everything he did for me......

does George Smith at EGW still do work, or are they retail parts only now?

Georges, smith went to Jim Milks of Innovative Custom in PA. George himself does not do gunsmithing anymore. He may still do some for some old friends, but nothing you can send into him, except for maybe some batch checkering on a machine.

Yea, I used EGW in the past but they strictly manufacture and sell parts now.

Yeah, Jim left EGW but is still doing work. Here's his site.

On another note, check out Colt's custom shop. Their pricing isn't bad and then it remains "all Colt" and hear their wait times are around 6 months for the Tac Pack.
