THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Are there any other manufacturers who make anything similar to her stuff? I am including a link to a picture of the type of work she does that I particularly like. I'm not really a fan of straight checkering. http://www.esmeralda.cc/sncel-221062.jpg Any suggestions would be appreciated! |

I can get about any grip I need from Esmeralda based on her patterns and wood availability.
I've gotten custom grips from Haken Pek. No easy task either, you'll have to send multiple e-mails over a long stretch of time to eventually get a response IF he thinks you're a nice guy. I scanned thin grips on Esmeralda's website a minute ago. She has a set of smooth cocobolas that appealed to me, at least. What I prefer to do is periodically check Esmeralda's website for updates. Her production runs like Missouri weather. Don't like what you see today, wait for tomorrow. That said, check Wicked Grips. btw, pictured on 1911 in avatar are Esmeralda ebony gaboon grip panels. |

Yeah, I've been watching her site for a few months now, and while she's turned out some beauties, they aren't in slender. I am really a huge fan of her knotwork and Celtic designs. Although, had she offered these in slender, I probably would have snapped them up. Gorgeous. http://www.esmeralda.cc/snAB271491.jpg I will check out Wicked Grips, too. And thanks KILLERB6 for your suggestion, too, but I am looking for wood. |

I have several sets of Esmeralda's grips and they are by far my favorites. Her grips are very well made and fit well. I bought a set for my Colt Special Combat that I had to modify a bit to clear the ambi thumb safety. A little sanding was all that was needed to give enough clearance for the thumb paddles. She uses Deft gloss finish on her grips in case anyone has a similar problem. The checkering on her grips are not as sharp as machine cut checkering, which I like. If you carry IWB the checkering won't abrade your skin or clothing.
I have two sets of Raasco grips and they are nice as well. They are laminate wood and machine checkered so they have a good gripping surface. Ahrends is another grip maker for you to look at. They make some nice wood grips, although I don't think they are as pretty as Esmeralda's grips. I have two sets of 10-8 grips, which are made by VZ and the checkering is pretty aggressive. Next on my list is a nice set of elephant ivory grips from Nutmeg Sports. and a set of gaboon ebony, double diamond grips from Esmeralda. I have heard that Esmeralda will do custom orders sometimes. I think you just have to get her when she is not too busy. A set of her slim, bob tailed grips would look nice on your V-Bob so keep checking her web site and you may get lucky. |

While I have been looking at all the different sites that have been suggested, I think you have just reinforced my resolve to wait for Esmeralda grips. I did see some nice ones on Raasco's site, and also looked at Haken Pek and Nills Grips. Maybe it's a European thing, but their sites suck to navigate. Thanks for the input. I'll post pics when I finally get some. |

Are you looking for something other than checkered? Esmeralda has several sets of slender bob tailed grips on her site now that look very nice. All of the cocobolo grips are checkered and I don't see any with her Celtic pattern. Makes me want to go out and buy a V-Bob just to have a pistol to put them on. Have you tried to e-mail her with a request? Might be worth a shot.
Nills makes beautiful grips, but I think they look weird on a 1911. |

I did email her with exactly what I wanted and she wrote back that she wasn't taking any custom orders.
I don't want checkered. I am going to wait for some of her Celtic knotwork...providing she makes some again. I liked that Nills' weren't just standard rectangular grips, and they looked more like they were a PART of the firearm. But again, horrible navigation on his site. |

Ryan had some beautiful grips on this site, but he is super backed up, from the sounds of it. Either way, I bookmarked the site. Thanks! |

Buy a set of the knotwork grips and slim them yourself. Or find a wood carver to do it for you?
