Get Chip McCormick PowerMags or Check-Mate hybrid 1911 mags. Don't bother with the stock Springfield ones.

I never cared for the SA 9mm mags. They always seemed to let the top round flop around too much for my taste. Wilson or Tripp mags give you 10+1. Mec-gar for the 9+1.

I would get CMC over the SA mags

At that price, I would buy CMC Power Mags. I bought SA mags at 10 each and thought they were a great deal. They work good for a govt mag, but I wouldn't pay 25 each for them. No way.

I bought 6 at 13.50 each from Midway . They have never failed me in any of my 4 1911's . I always hear about the Wilson, Tripp, etc . Makes me wonder "why" when I can get by with the Springers for less than 1/2 the price . ![]() |

Wilson 7 rounders are the most reliable I've found and their 8 rounders come in a close second.
Buy extras and rotate them..... |

SA uses Check-Mate as their supplier for most all of their 1911 mags. I've found them to be the most reliable 1911 mag out there. You can get them from Top Gun Supply for about half the price as SA sells them for.

IMO, if you're going to spend money, get Wilsons. Buy once, cry once.

I have 2 that came with my Milspec and they work fine, but they have wadcutter feedlips and I prefer hybrid so I buy Colt factory mags from Midway for $16. They are Checkmates.

The last Springfield 1911 that I purchased came with Shooting Star mags. Go figure. Back to the original question; I have had the best luck with Chip McCormick mags and I think the Wilson mags are a distant second. The Wilson polymer follower tends to wear over time and I have never had to replace a McCormick follower.
If you think 9mm mags for a 1911 are expensive then try buying 38 Super mags. |

Springfield mags that came with my MilSpec are in the back of the safe, presumably gathering dust. I'll never use them again.

I have several that came with my SA Loaded. They all work. I have some Wilson 47Ds that I bought when I needed some extra mags for matches. All of the mags are in my range bag and I don't bother separating them. I just grab whichever is on top, or in front, and can't tell any difference in performance between them. I also have a couple of Shooting Star and some other mag. They all work fine. |

I have no complaints whatsoever about mine. I bought the maximum number of discounted mags when I got my Springfield GI, but IIRC they were $10 each back then...
