THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT That being said, I really like the aliens and gators the best, so my question is, will I be able to carry those in the set up I described or do I need to get one of the less aggressive grip styles? I currently have textured wood grips, so I'm not exactly accustomed to smooth comfy grips, but I don't want to get all chewed up either. Can anyone who has these let me know opinions on relative comfort for carry and shooting? |

The VZs are pretty aggressive so carrying concealed against skin may tear you up unless you wear an undershirt. I just put some on my smith j frame and love them. It's a local shop so I tried on a few before deciding. Great grips!!

I run VZ's on both my carry guns. One of them is a full size 1911 that wears a pair of ETC's. I cannot comment about how they feel on skin though, as I always wear a t-shirt between my gun and my body. I can try them tonight without a t-shirt if you'd like, to see how they feel.
My other carry gun, an SP-01, wears the "Tactical Diamonds". Again, I wear a t-shirt between them and my body, so I don't know how bad they are.

I run Aliens on my 1911 IWB w/o a T-shirt. If I were jogging it would rub me raw after a while. But since I only wear my 1911 when I'm out on the town and fairly sedentary I find no issues with the Aliens.

I have a set of the double diamonds in black micarta and they are great. I had a pair of the aliens and yes, they are rough without a shirt between. I carry my 1911 the same way you do, IWB against bare skin, so those aliens had to get swapped out. I wanted the ETC in black cherry but I found the double diamonds for 25 bucks

I have the ETC identical to picture already shown and as you can see that on the edges the grips are smooth with heavy texture in the middle. Great grips for ccw. I use a galco iwb with no t shirt and because of the smooth edges it causes no discomfort or rub on the skin.

... yeah, I just bought some VZ, (double diamond) grips machined from G10
Very aggressive. You wouldn't want it chaffing on your ass |

The Gatorback and 320 designs aren't uncomfortable at all. Anything with diamonds will not be fun against bare skin, especially if you go for the G10 version.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm looking at the gator backs. I think they might offer the best compromise of grip and carry comfort.

I run VZ Operator II's on my Baer, which I seldom carry, my Combat Elite which I carry IWB all the time, and Gator Backs on my Springfield. The Springfield was my primary carry until I fixed up my CE. The thing about VZ grips is they are great texture when your hands are wet from sweat. I hate slick grips and gave away two sets of custom Alumagrips because I despised them. I wear the CE sometimes without an undershirt and do have some chaffing, but I think some of that may be the gun itself along with the grips. I have used 400 grit sandpaper to make about 5 swipes across the tops of the grips when new to knock off the sharpness and turned them into what I think are the perfect grips. Never tried the linen, but they would probably be pretty smooth and non chafing, yet still offer some grip.

I use gatorback slims for my two conceal carry pieces. Fantastic grips.

Don't know of any mech issues. But you will need to switch out your bushings to slim bushing and screws in order to use them.

Don't ignore the 320s. These are the least aggressive grips VZ offers. Smooth! Here's a set (Black Cherry) on my SA:
And a set of Black Desert Sand on my Kimber: ![]() |

I run a set of ETC's Slims on a Kimber Ultra CDP in a Milt Sparks VM2 and have no issues at all with these grips next to my bare skin. Comfortable for all day carry!
