I think I was this there and was going to pick it up for a project. You did a great job. I do fear the scratch because I love the looks of my pistols, however, I just take great care in putting them back together. I have used the credit card trick at times. |

OP, you did a nice job. Looks good! Are those black cherry VZ grips? I have a set of black cherry, 10-8 grips on my Range Officer and your pistol makes me want to switch them to a stainless pistol.

I have this thing called an Idiot Scratch preventer. It's a piece of plastic cut to line up against the grip / slide and it's anchored by pressing it around the mag release. I'll try to find their website. I've had it for several years and it's saved my 45's a lot of scratches. I think they made them out of paper, too.

I was carrying my Series 70 when riding across Big Bend on a dirtbike and wiped out, skidding on it well over thirty feet on river rock. I'm no longer worried about buffing out an idiot scratch.

Awesome thread, great results. I scotch-brighted the idiot mark off my stainless Colt Gov't and I was really happy with it too.

Here's the link. Kind of expensive though.
