In regards to pitting, it depends on size of the pitting or hole, location and amount we have to deal with. In that case, it was cut off during the metal shaping procedure. Here is an American Eagle that had a stock lug put on it (not original manufacture) and had other problems. The lug was cut off, pitting and holes repaired and the back strap reshaped because it was flattened when the lug was cobbled on it. The BEFORE and AFTER pictures and the grip strap DURING picture is below.

P.38 yep, a couple of dozen or so, so far. Over 300 Lugers. Many other Curio and Relic Pistols. I also have restored German P.38s, Walther PPK, C96 Broomhandle Mauser, Steyr Hahn, Browning HP P-35, Swedish Lahti, Japenese Nambu, Ballester Molina, Shansei Arsenal C96, Swiss Sig P210, S&W US Army 1917 Service Revolver, Mauser K98 and Weatherby MK V Rifles, M7 Roth Steyr, Chinese Tokarev, CZ 50 & CZ 52 Pistols
