Ive been a massive 1911/2011 guy for a little over 10 years now kind of coming in and out of owning many different types from Kimber, SA, STI and Wilson. For the last few years, Ive only owned own 1911, a Kimber Tactical Pro II. Prior to that, I had a SA TRP that I carried for a while. Ive been carrying Glocks the last few years and shooting them primarily when I go to the range. Hell, yesterday was the firs time in four years that Ive shot my Kimber.
Well. (  ) after shooting my Kimber yesterday next to my 19 and 17, Its had me wanting to dump my Glocks and go fully back to 1911s again. I am talking selling ALL of my Glocks and 9mm ammo to go with them. If I did this, I would pickup a SA TRP ( no rail ) and a bunch of ammo to replace no longer having the Glocks around.
Anyone else just dump one platform and dive head first into or in my case, back into 1911s? I just feel like I am back at home shooting them after all of these years away. |

I feel the same way about S&W revolvers. If not for competing in some events where a higher capacity is an advantage ( those 30+ shot stages of uspsa the obligatory glock for gssf) I suspect all I would own is wheel guns

I hear what you're saying and I think it makes some sense. If I were to do that I would still end up with a lot of guns.
I would want a full sized 1911 in .22 for practice, small game etc. I would want one in 9mm for ammo reasons. I would want one in officer's size for CCW. I would want at least one Para or STI for high cap as needed. And then I would want a lot of of the rest 'cause 1911 and 'murica

Ditch the Glocks if you feel you must but at least keep the ammo and buy a 1911 chambered in 9mm

Short story? .45 is expensive to shoot and low capacity. 9mm single-stacks are low capacity too and at the time it was laborious keeping a 9mm 1911 running well. Bought a couple of the various polymer framed striker fired guns and was relieved at how easy it was to just buy a gun, load it, and shoot it, not have to worry about anything else. I now own one government model 1911 that still shoots lights out, and then I've got a bunch of Glocks and an M&P. I don't shoot those as well, but they run without much fuss, have lots of inexpensive mags available to them, and hold butt loads of rounds. Sometimes I still fantasize about getting another railed 1911 or a 9mm 1911, but then I remember I can buy two Glocks for that price and I let go of the idea. So, I can totally see where you're coming from, but I'd say, don't do it. |

I go down that path every now and again, but always realize that my Glock 17 shoots and carries just as well. It's also twice the capacity, lighter, and much easier to maintain.
See my sig line, too.

Keep the G19, sell the 17 but keep the mags from it...then go all 1911.

I love my 1911's by a wide margin my favorite handgun to shoot.
That said I don't see the point in carrying a more expensive gun that holds less bullets. Going backwards in a carry gun not something i'm willing to do. |

Never will own a Springfield, but I my favorites are 1911's. But, I keep a Glock in the truck.

I love my 1911s. That said I'm unwilling to give up my polymer framed striker fired handguns for carry use.
I don't love it, but can't imagine being without at least on Glock 19. It's nothing to take pride in owning but it's a pretty good tool, similar to always keeping a good hammer to throw in the toolbox. I would definitely sell the Glock 17 if I were in your place as it's the least favorite polymer striker I've ever owned. |

I'm primarily a 1911 guy, but I have some Beretta's, S&Ws and a SIG in the safe.

I love carrying them. I find full sized 1911 more comfortable than g19.
Unfortunately there are some times a high capacity 9 is needed. I'd recommend at least saving a g19 with appropriate support gear just in case. |

I went through the same thing a few years ago, sold all Glocks and Smiths and Beretta's. Mostlly 1911's now. I have a Baer with a Marvel slide to fill the .22 itch.
I dont miss the other stuff at all. Good Luck man. |

It's not really much of a move. You realized your mistake, and are taking steps to correct it. People buy glocks because they are good at everything, but soon realize they are great at nothing.

I really like the 1911 as well and there is a part of me that would like to carry it again but I can't get past the grip safety. It caused an issue with one guy here and that is not the only incident I have read about over the years. I would carry my HiPower before a 1911.

I love shooting a 1911 but it'd be a feat to get one on my side again.
The only good thing about 'em is they're easy to shoot and detail strip. After that, they're just a heavy, low capacity, antique kind of pistol. Well suited for competition and novelty in 2017. |

shoot what you're most confident with
nothing wrong with a CCW 1911 get a quality IWB and a good belt designed for CCW

Anyone who has a love for 1911's but wants a higher capacity mag should shoot some steel CZ's. I get great accuracy out of my CZ75(same as a 1911) and it can hold 19+1. They make them in all sizes. I feel CZ has some great options that bring the best of the 1911 with the reliability and capacity of a polymer.

I have dumped the G-17 and 19 to go back to the Hi-Power. Far more ergonomic and reliable than the glocks were.
Now I carry and shoot the VP9 as it handles the same as a Hi-Power in a polymer striker fired pistol. |

Not me. I always shot my 1911 and HiPower better than my G19/26. Never tried a G17 yet.
OP, I see no problem with it. Other than you'll catch flack for not going with something with more capacity. I will say this, a 9mm 1911 is a way cool gun to shoot. You could think about getting an aluminum framed 1911 in 9mm with a shorter slide. And maybe even a commander grip. that would be a nice gun to carry. I'm in the camp of if you like something, it counts for something when choosing a gun to carry. For no good reason other than it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy shooting and carrying it. Life is too short to carry guns you don't like. Now, if I was getting shot at every day, I'd probably go with the one that just works best for that type of a situation. And that MIGHT be a Glock. It's hard not to like capacity. But 1911's make it easy to be accurate with. IMHO. Accuracy could make the difference in a situation. So could capacity. Sure, both is nice. But I'm more accurate with single action guns that point like a 1911. |

Im young but love 1911s. they point well for me, I shoot them well, and appreciate the art of them. sure they are heavier than Glocks but who cares? I have been very honestly thinking about selling damn near everything and going to 3 handguns: Shield for carry all the time. no 1911s get that small or hide that well for the quick trips in town Les Baer TRS 45. because I love the original style and it can be used in a ton of comps. STI tactical 9mm. for high cap comps, HD, suppressing, zombies. |

I am not sure I want anymore 1911s.
I have 2 M&Ps I am seriously looking to transform into CZs. I wont say I have never had plastic guns, but I have always had a 1911. But, I find the CZ 75 platform is a perfect union of 1911 and 9mm.... I really love me a 1911, BUT, 7-9 rounds sucks! My 1911-22 is fun, but 10 rounds? with a 75, I get double stack 9mm in a 1911 package, that is not stupid priced. I think it is perfect. |

I agree to an extent.
I shoot my 1911 better than any other handgun. I'm far more accurate with it. HOWEVER, how much accuracy do I need in a realistic self defense scenario as a citizen? While I agree you can never have to much accuracy (if it's not slowly you down any) You can defiantly have to few bullets. I carry a G30S because it gives me 11 rounds of .45ACP vs the 8 in the 1911 and do so in a more compact and lighter (though bulkier) package. Now, if I were to discover a double stock commander size 1911 that was just as reliable as my full size 1911 Range Officer. I'd sell the G30S in a heart beat and whatever else I needed to, to acquire one. BUT I don't know of any commander size double stack 1911. I Also don't know of any that's reported to be as reliable as a quality full sized 1911 they seem to be a bit hit or miss. If someone out there does, please let me know and show me sources, as well as how's their customer service? |

1911 = fun to shoot. Heavy. Low round count. Range toy. I have a sig stx 1911. Same dimensions as my glock 34. I'd much rather carry the 34.. or a 17 or a 19. |

My 1911s are my man jewelry. They cost a a ton, to pretty for hard use, and to heavy for carry. About the only thing they are good for is bragging rights. This is just my personal openion.
Love owning and shooting them, but don't see myself giving up my Glocks or sigs for 1911s only. |

The 'merican-made 1911 has won 3.5 wars.
Glocks are fat. CZs are phat. Sigs are copies. S&Ws are revolvers, unless they're plastic autos, in which case they're just fat clones of fat Glocks. 
Always advisable to stick with the real-deal, unless you're into Matrix-type alt-realities.

I could see converting to all glocks. That would suit me better than all 1911s.
