Bought a department trade in P226 357Sig for $360 +tax. I carried 357Sig as a LEO before I retired. Came with 3 mags, working night sites and the box. Can this gun be converted to 9mm? That was mentioned in the store, but I've never heard before that a Sig 40/357 can be converted to 9mm. Attachment Attached File

I'm pretty sure it can, but the barrel is expensive.

Is it just a barrel/ mag change?

A Barsto or Silencerco barrel will work to convert to 9mm

You can buy a conversion barrel and some mags, but a factory X-change kit works well and the slide has proper sights for the caliber of the kit. They usually can be found for less. CALX-226-9-BSS

ETA: I'm pretty happy with the Bar-Sto conversion barrel in my P229 though.

Holy smokes DA/SA or  DAK?  Even if DAK I'd have probably bought it for that price.

Where'd you get the gun from?

Never mind missed your previous post.

You can't just drop a factory 9mm barrel in it like some guns. You either need the conversion barrel and possibly a new extractor, or a whole slide.

Conversion barrel is usually $200, if you hunt around you can probably grab a complete slide for $300.

Thanks! It's not worth that much trouble then.  Need to find a used .40 barrel for it.

To correct my earlier post, Sig P-series in .357 and 9mm use the same sights. A conversion barrel should work fine. https://www.realgunreviews.com/sig-sauer-sight-heights-sight-numbers/

When i lived in Dallas that place was like a bad crack habit to me.
Bought about 9 or 10 guns there.

I have a 226 that was .357 Sig.

My department changed policy and decided to not support .357 Sig.  (Department issue ammo was required for all duty and off duty ammo, and they didn't want to carry as many calibers as they had been)  I got a Bar-Sto conversion barrel, about $220, 9mm magazines, and changed the recoil spring.  Carried it that way for about four years before I retired.  Never had a malfunction or any trouble of any kind.  It is a soft shooter and I gained a couple rounds of capacity, 15 vs 12 round magazines.  The gun is still set up as a 9mm, Although I could switch it back any time, just by changing barrel and recoil spring, and mags.

I also switched a P239 to 9mm, worked the same, but I was able to use the .357 Sig mags.  Both guns were absolutely reliable.

It can be done.

Some Sig 229's in .40. Some M&P's with the .40S&W for $299 and the 9mm for $339. The Glock G22 for $349 and G35 for $369.

They had some Glock G38(.45 GAP) for $249 with $12.49 box of 50 ammo(hint, this frame can be used for any project gun you want). My intention is to get this G38 and use it for a practice/test bed on learning the in&outs of the Glock platform, how to hydrodip the slide assembly, how to coat/powder coat/CeraCoat the frame, and finally end up with a G17 slide assembly on it to go on my GetHomeBag.
