I used to have a Glock 22, early model gen 4. I regretfully had to sell it to pay some bills and I miss having a full size .40. Currently, I carry a Glock 17 on duty, I own a Glock 19, M&P9 Fullsize, M&P Shield 9, USP Tactical in .45, and a GP100 in .357. I've been thinking of getting another Glock 22, but I'm not sure if I want something different for a little more variety. What would you all recommend?

Edit: I ended up getting a Glock 22 and here it is!

I have several Glocks (most of which are 40s) and like the platform.

If you're looking for something different, I recently picked up a SIG P226R...and I really like it.

Police/agency trade-ins of both (and others) can be found in the $400-500 price range; mine were at the bottom of that range and they appear almost new.

I was considering a Sig... considering that I've own(ed) Berettas, Glocks, H&Ks, S&Ws, Rugers. Where did you find yours?

Picking up a Kahr CW40 today.

My current 40's are Glock, SA XD40, Sig P250, Beretta 96, and Sig P229.

The P229 is probably the most enjoyable to shoot, also probably due to it being the heaviest.  I've tried some of the 3rd Generation Smiths 4046, etc, but always seem to get rid of them again because they are too heavy.  If I was in the market for one right now, I'd probably buy another Beretta, or pick up one of the P226 trade-in's in 40.

I recommend an FNX-Tactical in 40 Super.

I have a G17 for cheap high volume shooting.

I also have a G22 converted to .357 Sig.  It shoots much flatter and is more fun to shoot, but costs more, so I usually only put a few mags down range.

The FNX-T is by far the most fun to shoot and relatively cheap since I just started reloading for it.  It's now a 10mm on steroids!

The market is flooded with cheap LEO trade ins for 10mm Kurz.  Glock 22/23/27, Sig 226/9, and M&P 40/40c just snag a couple of each.

Hard to beat a Glock 23 or even 27.

Same manual of arms as your duty gun and will serve you well in stress.

How about a Jericho 941 for something different?  CDNN has the .40 version for $380 new IIRC.

The nicest ones came from CDNN; they included the case, manuals, mags, everything and looked essentially new.

I got one from Recoil Gunworks; was about $40 more, not quite as unused and it was the pistol only wrapped in bubble wrap and nothing else in a cardboard box.

I'm a 40 fan, but in real compacts it can be a handful.  FNS 40 is wonderful, I'd also take a look at the M&P2.0, and of course the G23.

Hk p30 in .40 is awesome and really cheap now. Cdnn has them with light lem trigger for $599. Those used to be $950 pistols but nobody is buying .40s lately. I just got one and am very happy. It controls the .40 recoil quite well and is very accurate. Used to have glock 22,23, and 27 but sold them all years ago.

About the only .40 handgun I like is the Glock 22/23, so that gets my vote.

You stated that you carry a G17 on duty, so why even consider a police trade-in when you can get a new blue label for $398?

M&P Shield Compact, Ported

I recently passed on a Glock 23C ported .40 and actually did not know about the S&W. I just might have to get one of these. I had a ported 3" 1911 once and it was literally a blast to shoot - but the ports did in fact hold the muzzle down. I have no stake in the auction linked and don't know the seller.

QFT

A '94 P229 in .40 was my first pistol. It remains my EDC. I never understood why people thought .40 was snappy until I shot it in a Glock. Even then, I still don't get the complaints, but it was a noticeable difference.

Should be easy to find a turn-in P226, which is probably even that much smoother with the .40. Still a P229 shouldn't be too hard to find. Or try the SP2022/2340. I was really impressed when I finally got a SP2022. I actually started to use the SP2022 in 3 gun instead of the P229.

Oh, I know. I'm just having a tough time deciding what I want, that's all. One of the local shops around here charges $420 for blue label Glocks. I usually just get mine from them, since ordering online I'd have to factor in shipping + $25 transfer.

So now I'm tying to decide between:

Glock 22 Gen 4 in OD green
HK USP .40 (V1)
HK P30 or P30L. Does the P30 or P30L come in a V1 type variant like the USP (DA/SA, safety & decocker)? If so, what's the variant #?
Sig P226 or P229
M&P 2.0 .40. I'm wondering how much better the trigger is than post 2013 M&Ps.

Or I might just say "fuck it" and get an Arex Rex Zero 1 in 9mm. They make a .40, but I don't think it's being imported yet.

Yes the p30 comes like that. They call it the p30s for safety. I have one in 9mm, da/sa with safety. They make it in p30l and in .40 also. You can carry it cocked and locked also if you want, I carry it hammer down on loaded chamber

I picked up a clean da/sa p226r .40 for $440 shipped. Very pleased with it and how it shoots .40. I also have a Glock 22 and Glock 27 I carry for work.

With how cheap clean Sigs are right now that's what I would get. Once those trade ins dry up I think the price will go up.

Explore the FN line. I have a FNP that is fabulous. The most accurate .40 I have shot. The FNS gets high marks as well.

Very under rated IMHO. Worth a peek.

And ultimately, that's what I did. I went and picked up their last blue label G22 and added Vickers controls.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

My .40 is a CZ75 with a retro spur hammer and trigger job by Angus Hobdell at Ghost Products Inc (CZ Custom, www.czcustomguns.com) in Mesa. I replaced the hard plastic grips with the factory rubber ones.

Seems like the OP's go to pistols are striker fired.
Because of this I would recommend the FNS or GLock 23 4th gen, or possibly a HK VP40.

I recently got a Glock 23C - ported.  If you're looking for something different, you might consider it.  For me, it shot easier than a 9mm - which you may or may not desire in a .40.  Personally, I *really* like it (It is not one of my SD guns).

I also have an M&P 40, and an FNS .40, which I like equally, and a Taurus 24/7 G2 that shoots almost like a 9mm (but I don't care for the long trigger pull (in double- and single action).

I have shot a full sized Beretta PX-4, and thought highly of it.

Local gun show had a CZ P-07 in .40.  I love mine in 9mm, but would love to test fire one in .40.

I recently replaced a Glock 23 with a CZ RAMI in .40.  If you are looking for something "different."  I find it more comfortable to shoot and it seems to me, so far, that I shoot it better, too.  On really limited samples.  I'm not sure I ever really warmed up to the 23, though.

I know I really like mine, but since they don't make them anymore, they seem to have gone the unobtanium route and have gotten really expensive.
