Why the hell would be shooting 25yds with a carry gun?  Remember  Bud, REALISTIC DISTANCES!  Most SD encounters, you'll have to push your attacker off, or make distance, before you even get a shot off!

To build good fundamentals.  25 yard shooting, especially timed Bill Drills, will teach you a lot about grip, stance, sight tracking, relaxation and trigger pull.

I shot a new PR last night. 30 rds at 25 yards inside 5 minutes on a Army L target. I scored a 280 which is 2pts better than my previous personal best.

I had a few fliers into the 7 ring but 17 10s iirc. I left the target but my wife's working tonight so I'll have her grab it.

I'm not sure if this is the best or worst part but I did it with my g19.

20 yards with a star B.  Target is the tiny corner diagram from a B-27 target. Sights are about the size of 1911A1 gi sights and the trigger is FUCKING AWFUL.

Target size in relation to normal target.

When I was working at a range full time, I'd get 5/5 pretty often with my witness 10mm with a match slide on it.

Effective range of handguns has been 50 yards/ meters for a long time. The entire point of shooting out to thier capabilities is to;
A. Know the capability
2. Ingrain the motor learning into what it takes to make the fundamentals perform.

Shooting only at "realistic distances" is a good way to plateau and cripple your improvement.

Being able to shoot farther, faster, and more accurate are all discreet skills that need to be trained on in order to put them all together. Then add pressure on top of that.

eta- doing the above is how you can get to doing stuff like this; (don't know if it will work for people but worth watching if possible)

I practice on an 8" Plate Rack @ 25 yards.

Over and over.

I think of it as head shots at 25 yards, I shoot at a good clip and usually can clean the rack.

I did shoot USPSA for 20 years 10 years ago but I'm still with it. Hell, I'm very effective with my Glock 43 on the rack.

Never mind I suck with my Glock 30s at that distance.

My 1911, I'm on point with. Glock...barely on target. Had to drift the rear sight to the right as far as it would go...tried giving it more finger pad on the trigger, still hitting left of POA. I guess I'll have to remember to aim at the sob's right side at that range.

And you can't score higher with your 1911?  Come on.

Glock 43, 13 rounds American Eagle 147, 25 yards.

I've done better with this pistol, but this is pretty typical.

Arizona POST requires a 25 yard component for pistol qualification:

https://post.az.gov/sites/default/files/documents/files/2013Semi.AutoQualCourse%2Bdefintions.pdf

I shot 245/250 last time. I had a great group except for one shot low left and 3 inches out of the line.

Still mad about that.

5 rounds on an 8" plate at 25yds, wrists above shoulders:

Average about 4.8sec with my Limited gun
With my 9mm 1911 I can occasionally get it to about 4.1sec

I'm not a big semi-auto fan, but decided a few weeks ago I probably ought to have a full-size 9mm around,
so I bought an el cheapo SAR B6P. It's a pretty good shooting pistol and accurate beyond my expectations.

And FWIW, by Thursday evening I will have run over 1,000 rounds through it and have deliberately not cleaned it just to see when it will quit. It just keeps going.

But you said carry gun(s). I very seldom shoot at less than 50 yds., especially with my SA revolvers, and yes, I carry these, especially the heavily worn 4 3/4".

  Offhand:

 Seated, back-rested position @ 50:

   Of the bench @ 100:

Not a carry gun except for hunting, but a very accurate revolver:

...and just for grins, 200 yds.:

25 yard bill drill in 3.70 seconds.  Wish I could do this every time.

I'm probably not going to take the 25 yd shot unless its a life or death situation. I have a couple of 1911s that are good at 15 yds but my carry guns? I might as well throw them at him. I bought a Kel Tec SUB2000 pistol-caliber carbine in .40, and that thing is pin-point at 25, maybe a 1.5" group. Its all in the sight radius and fixed barrel.

My best group to date was during my 115 grain ammo test. Shot with my P226 SAO Legion.
