Lots of good recommendations here I guess it comes down to your budget.

If you have $1000 to spend a STI Guardian 9mm 1911 or an EMP
I regret selling my West German Sig P225 that is a great one if you can find one for a good price
Kahr CW9 or any other in their line
S&W Shield

I've owned everything but the EMP ( My Guardian is a .45 but I've shot the 9mm) and if you don't mind spending the cash the STI or 2nd the SIG

However since they are no longer in production you may want to look at the Kahr Arms P9 series for a single stack 9mm.
Every now and then you can also find Sig P6/225 series pistols for a pretty good deal used as well.

Just wanted to chime in that I had the same problem as you and went with the Walther PPS.

Walther PPS and Shield in 9mm here.

Happy with both... Ultimately want a SS Glock in 9mm but I can wait I guess.

Kahr CW9 or the newer lower priced version CT9.
Summit Gun Broker has CT9's for $299.

Definitely check out the LC9s.  I went in and compared the Shield and the LC9s and the LC9s was the clear winner for me.  Trigger is absolutely awesome.  There is also the LC9s pro now that gets rid of the external safety and magazine disconnect.  I don't mind the safety on the LC9s because the trigger is extremely light.

Though small, I find my Sig 938 to be very shootable.

I'm kind of laughing at the people calling the S&W thick in the slide.......

It's not.

The P7 is a decent option.   But if you are going to spend that kind of money, look at the S&W 1911 Pro Series 9mm.   It's probably closer to the old performance center guns than the current PC line of guns.

The sig 239 is nice, but overpriced for what you get IMO.   I do like the Dehorned SAS model, but that's not a huge deal unless you are doing deep CCW with unconventional holsters or locations.

My vote, 3913/3914 or the full size 3906

Yeah. K9, P9, E9 or even a T/P9 will suit you.

The Colt Light Weight Commander in 9x19mm was the only thing I saw come out that made my credit card tremble in fear.

Otherwise, it was a Snooze Show.

I'll be picking up a LC9s this spring. As soon as the model with no safety and no mag disconnect is available.
